The ‘CEQ’: COMPUTERS IN EDUCATION QUESTIONNAIRE
(Entered 3 June 2002. Last revised 10 April 2014.)

Here’s a complete sample data set. Twelve upper primary school principals responded to 10 questions regarding the use of computers in schools. The data are real, collected in 1983 in Dunedin, New Zealand.

This data set provides the chance to practise with Lertap.

Following this page are 12 pages with responses from the principals. Note that an ID number has been drawn in the upper right of each returned questionnaire.

Print pages 2 – 13 of this document. This will give you 12 sample survey returns, each with an ID in the upper right.

Start Lertap5. Use the New menu to “Make a new blank Lertap 5 workbook”.

Enter the data in the Data sheet. Enter control cards in the CCs sheet.

Suggestions: use Column 1 of the Data sheet for ID, and Columns 2 through 11 for the responses. Hint: use ‘The Spreader’ to ease data entry.

Use control cards similar to these:

*col (c2-c11)
*sub aff
*pol ++--- --++-

(The *pol card will reverse-score the negative statements; a high “score” on this questionnaire will result when principals answer the + questions with a 4 or 5, and the – (negative) questions with a 1 or 2.)

Can you get the “right” answers? Page 15 of this document has the item means.

P.S. This document assumes you’ve already read about how to use Lertap5. If you haven’t, pay a visit to the website shown above.

Here’s a chart made by having Excel plot the item means, with x-axis labels taken from the first column above:

Notes:

This example was uploaded to the Lertap website, on 3 June 2002 by Larry Nelson, Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia. The original questionnaire was published in, I believe, a MECC journal, round about 1981. (MECC was the Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium.)

Thanks go to Bp. Nur Hadi Amiyanto, Jateng, Indonesia, for supporting this aspect of the Lertap project.
