Terms and Conditions for McDougalls Young Baking Team of the Year 2018

Please read these terms and conditions carefully. They will govern your school’s entry to take part in the McDougalls Young Baking Team of the Year 2018 competition (the “Promotion”).

  1. The Promotion is open to primary schools in the UK. Each participating school (“School”) may enter one team consisting of one professional school caterer, aged 18 years and over, and up to three primary school pupils aged 7 – 11 years old (the "Entry Team"). The professional school caterer must either be employed by the School or work at the School via a UK-based catering outlet for the duration from the Opening Time (see clause 3(a)) until and including the date of the Live Final (see clause 12). The pupils in each Entry Team must attend the School that they are representing and must be the required age (above) on the date of the Live Final.
  1. All professional school caterers who participate in an Entry Team are deemed to participate with the full knowledge and consent of the School and their employer (if their employer is not the School). Participants should therefore seek permission from the School and their employer (if the School is not the employer) before the School submits an entry into this Promotion. Each School with an Entry Team should ensure that the permission of the parents or guardians of participating pupils are secured prior to the Entry Team submitting their entry into the Promotion. The School will be expected to provide written evidence of parents’ and/or guardians' consent.
  1. To enter the Promotion the School must:

(a)at any time from 9am on 2nd January 2018 ( the “Opening Time”) and by no later than 31 March 2018;

(i)create an Entry Team in accordance with clause 1; and

(ii)register its interest in entering the Promotion by either (i) visiting the Promoter’s website and entering the name of their school caterer who is going to be participating in the Entry Team, the name of the School, a contact email address, postal address and a telephone number which the School can be contacted on at and

(b)Once the School has registered its interest in the Promotion in accordance with clause 3(a) above, the Entry Team must create and submit one recipe (either a sweet or savoury recipe), together with supporting images, along with confirmation of its contact details provided in accordance with clause 3(a)(ii) to . Each recipe must comply with the requirements set out in clause 5 (the “Entry”) and must be submitted in accordance with this clause by no later than Friday 4th May 2018 (the “Closing Time”).

  1. Each Entry Team which registers its interest in the Promotion in accordance with clause 3(a) will be sent a toolkit containing informational about the promotion (including the judging criteria), 1 bag of one of the products listed in clause 5 below (the product provided in the toolkit shall be at the Promoter’s discretion) and inspirational ideas. The toolkit will be sent to the postal address provided in accordance with clause 3(a)(ii), within 7 days of the School registering its interest in the Promotion in accordance with clause 3(a).
  1. The Entry Team’s recipe must contain at least one product sourced locally within a 30 mile radius of the School and at least one of the following foodservice products:
  1. McDougalls Plain Flour (3kg);
  2. McDougalls Self Raising Flour (3kg);
  3. McDougalls Yorkshire Pudding Batter (3.5kg);
  4. McDougalls White Bread and Roll Mix (3.5kg);
  5. McDougalls Wholemeal Bread Mix (3.5kg);
  6. McDougalls Brown Bread Mix (3.5kg);
  7. McDougalls Pizza Base Mix (3.5kg);
  8. McDougalls Soft Bap Mix (3.5kg) ;
  9. McDougalls Plain Sponge Mix (3.5kg);
  10. McDougalls Chocolate Sponge Mix (3.5kg);
  11. McDougalls Plain Muffin Mix (3.5kg);
  12. McDougalls Chocolate Multi-Use Muffin & Cake Mix (3.5kg);
  13. McDougalls Scone Mix (3.5kg);
  14. McDougalls Standard Crumble Mix (3.5kg);
  15. McDougalls Vegetable Crumble Mix (3.5kg);
  16. McDougalls Chocolate Brownie Mix (3.5kg);
  17. McDougalls Plain Cookie Mix (3.5kg);
  18. McDougalls Chocolate Cookie Mix (3.5kg); or
  19. McDougalls Flapjack Mix (3.5kg);

The School should ensure that they retain receipts of any product purchased in accordance with this clause, as the Promoter may require proof that this clause has been complied with.

  1. Each School may enter one Entry Team into the Promotion once. Entries made through agents, third parties, organised groups or any entry duplication method will not be accepted.
  1. Each School and the school caterer in the School’s Entry Team are responsible for ensuring that their Entry is safe for human consumption and complies with any relevant laws and regulations (including any food safety laws and regulations).
  1. By entering the Promotion, the School shall grant or shall procure the grant of a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sub-licensable and transferrable licence for the benefit of the Promoter, to use, reproduce, distribute, and make derivative works of the Entry, in any media and through any media channel for the purpose of any marketing and advertising in connection with this Promotion or for the purpose of any marketing or advertising in connection with the Promoter’s brands and / or business activities.
  1. The Entry submitted must be that Entry Team's own work. By entering the Promotion, the School warrants that it’s Entry Team’s Entry will not infringe any copyright or any other right whatsoever of any third party.
  1. Each Entry must be suitable for display and publication online. Any entries which are contrary to any relevant legislation (including but not limited to any food safety laws and regulations) or which contain information which may be deemed obscene, indecent, discriminatory, defamatory or offensive, shall not be permitted for entry.
  1. Each Entry will be presented to our panel of judges (“The Judges”) including a culinary advisor from Premier Foods and representatives from the Lead Association for Catering in Education, and the Craft Guild of Chefs.
  1. Within two weeks of the Closing Time, the Judges will select from all valid entries, five entries which best meet the judging criteria in clause 20 (each a “Shortlisted Entry”). Any Entry Team with a Shortlisted Entry (the “Shortlisted Team”) will be notified by email (the “Notification”) by no later than 18th May 2018 that they have been shortlisted and will be invited to compete in a live final (“Live Final”) that will take place during the Lead Association for Catering in Education Main Event conference on Thursday 12th July 2018, at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham NEC. Shortlisted Teams will be required to confirm their attendance at the Live Final by no later than 25th May 2018 by responding to the Notification.
  1. Shortlisted Teams must be available to appear in the Live Final. In the event that a Shortlisted Team fails to respond to the Notification in accordance with clause 12 or, if the Shortlisted Team or any member of a Shortlisted Team is unable to attend the Live Final, then the Promoter reserves the right to select a replacement Shortlisted Team, in accordance with the judging criteria in clause 20, from all remaining entries submitted in accordance with these terms and conditions.
  1. The Promoter will cover travel costs associated with attending the Live Final, up to a value of £100.00 per Shortlisted Team which will be reimbursed against valid receipts. Any other costs incurred shall be the responsibility of the relevant School for each Shortlisted Team.
  1. The School will be responsible for ensuring that pupils in each Shortlisted Team are appropriately accompanied and supervised when attending the Live Final by two employees of the School who are UK residents, aged 18 years or over. The School shall be responsible for ensuring that any school caterer working with pupils in this Promotion or, any employee chaperoning its pupils in accordance with this clause 15, hold valid CRB/DBS checks.
  1. The Shortlisted Teams and their respective Schools should ensure that they comply with any health and safety rules of the location of the Live Final or any other guidance provided to them by the Promoter or employees / representatives of the Live Final location.
  1. Each Shortlisted Team will prepare and cook the recipe that they submitted in their Entry, at the Live Final. School caterers in each Shortlisted Team will be responsible for cooking the recipe at the Live Final. Pupils may assist in the preparation for cooking (i.e. measuring out the ingredients, mixing ingredients prior to the ingredients being cooked), under the supervision of the school caterer but will not be permitted to assist in the cooking of the recipe (i.e., using any electrical equipment, using the hob, or the oven etc.). Shortlisted Teams will have 1 hour to prepare and cook their selected recipe at the Live Final.
  1. The Judges will select, from all recipes cooked at the Live Final, one Shortlisted Team with the best cooked recipe, in accordance with the judging criteria in clause 20 (the “Winning Team”). The Winning Team will win £1000 in credit to spend on kitchen equipment and / or food technology accessories from a bona-fide supplier of the Winning Team’s School’s choice (the “Prize”). Each of the four runner up Shortlisted Teams will be given £250 creditto spend on kitchen equipment and / or food technology accessories from a bona-fide supplier of the respective runner up Shortlisted Team’s School’s choice (the “Runner Up Prize”).
  1. Within 28 days of the Live Final, the Promoter will request that the Winning Team’s School and the each runner up Shortlisted Team’s School notifies the Promoter of their respective selected bona-fide suppliers and will arrange for the credit won in the Prize and Runner Up Prize respectively to be placed with the relevant School’s selected supplier.
  1. Both the Shortlisted Teams and the Winning Team will be selected based upon the quality of their recipe submission, as judged by the Judges. The judging criterion will include the creativity, presentation, and innovation, of the recipes. For recipes cooked at the Live Final, the judging criterion will also include taste and texture.
  1. If a winner of a prize is unable to accept their prizefor any reason, then the Promoter reserves the right to award the prize to an alternative winner which shall be selected using the same selection criteria upon which the original winner of the prize was selected.
  1. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for entries that are incomplete, delayed, not received, lost, damaged or unreadable, whether due to failure or non availability of any website or otherwise, the submission of incomplete information or any other reason.
  1. The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is not made in accordance with these terms and conditions. Anydecision of the Promoter as to eligibility to take part in the Promotion or the result of the Promotion will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  1. There is no cash alternative to the Prize or Runner Up Prize. The Promoter reserves the right (but is not obliged) to substitute a reasonably equivalent alternative Prize and / or Runner Up Prize, of equal or greater value, should circumstances make this necessary.
  1. The Promoter will not be responsible or liable in any way for the products purchased by the Winning Team’s School using the Prize or a runner up Shortlisted Team’s School using the Runner Up Prize, the delivery of such products or for delivery costs or any other costs associated with the goods purchased by the School, which exceed the value of credit awarded in the Prize and Runner Up Prize respectively.
  1. The Promoter reserves the right to delay, postpone or cancel the Promotion in the event of circumstances outside its reasonable control, which it considers make it necessary for it to do so.
  1. The Winning Team and all Shortlisted Teams will be required to take part in non-paid publicity or advertising relating to the Promotion.
  1. To receive names and county of the Shortlisted Winners’ Schools and the Winning Team’s School, send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to:Vicki Baker, Cirkle, Canon House, 27 London End, Beaconsfield, Bucks, HP9 2HN within 28 days of the Live Final.
  1. By entering this Promotion, members of each Entry Team agree that any personal data provided in their Entry and / or in any correspondence with the Promoter and / or Agency in connection with this Promotion, will be held and used by the Promoter and / or the Agency for the purpose of administering this Promotion (including for the purpose set out in clause 30). By entering this Promotion, all members of each Entry Team consent to the transfer of their personal data to the Promoter and / or the Agency and use of their personal data by the Promoter and / or the Agency for the purpose set out in this clause.
  1. Members of Shortlisted Teams and the Winning Team may be required to take part in non-paid publicity or advertising relating to the Promotion, which may include having their photograph taken for promotional and press purposes.
  1. Consent for the purpose of clause 29 and 30 must be provided by a parent or guardian for Entry Team members that are under the age of 18. Schools are responsible for acquiring such consent prior to making an entry into the Promotion.
  1. The Shortlisted Teams’ and Winning Team’s School name and county of location may be published (including in publications publicising the Promotion) for the purpose of announcing the relevant School as having a Shortlisted Team and / or Winning Team.

  1. The Promotion and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with it, including contractual and non-contractual disputes or claims shall be subject the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes must be referred to the English courts.
