Audition Packet, Requirements and Information

In preparation for the workshop and TCHS Titan Dance Team audition, please review the following information:

All of the following are due before or by Monday May 1st, 2017

-You must have proof of a cleared physical within 12 months in order to participate. (forms are available from Mrs. Stevens or Mr. Williams in the Athletic Directors Office)

-Photocopy of most recent grades

-Must have a signed and completed Dance Audition Application

-Parent permission sheet

-Signed 2017-2018 Contract Signature Sheet

-2 Completed teacher recommendation forms

-All completed and submitted directly to Mrs. Stevens or to her mailbox located in the front office of TCHS by Monday May 1st, 2017.

Auditions

Clinics will be held Monday, May 1st & Wednesday, May, 3rd - 3:00pm-5:30pm

Auditions will be held on Friday, May 5th - 3:00pm

Dancers will learn contemporary and hip hop choreography as well as across the floor combinations.

Application Requirements:

Grade point average of 2.5 or greater and no F’s from most recent grading period (3rd quarter).

Not on your current school’s debt list – will be verified with Mrs. Stevens

Turn in the Dance Audition Application 2017-2018, Parent Permission Form, Dance Team Contract, athletic physical form/packet, and 2 Teacher Recommendations completed and signed to Mrs. Stevens by Monday May 1st, 2017.

Good attendance and discipline records must be reflected in each candidate’s files. Teachers may be contacted in regards to any unfavorable remarks to give clear details and an explanation.

Audition Requirements:

Dance Candidate Meeting/Workshop – Monday May 1st, 2017 and review session Wednesday May 3rd3:00pmin the TCHS Dance Room. Mrs. Stevens and graduating senior dancers will review all audition material and the audition process. Floor passes and short combinations in multiple styles will be taught by seniors May 1st, reviewed May 3rdand be auditioned in front of a panel of judges on that Friday May 5th, 2017. Dancers will be given numbers at the Dance Workshop May 1st, to wear Friday May 5th for auditions.

  • Dance Attire – black on black, hair pulled back and out of your face

Dance Audition – Friday May 5th, 2017 at 3:00pm in the TCHS Dance Room. Wear ALL BLACK dance attire (no writing), hair neatly secured back away from face, no gum, no cell phones, and have water and snack.

  • Candidates will progress one at a time across the floor, exhibiting technical floor passes on the Right and Left side. According to numbers in groups of 2 or 3. Candidates will perform the audition combinations in front of the judges. Judges are looking for clean technique and showmanship.
  • Points and Score Sheets will remain confidential to everyone except Mrs. Stevens and TCHS administrators. Dancers will receive points for grades, technique, showmanship, and teacher recommendation forms. The score breakdown will be 60% technique, 20% showmanship, 10% grades, 10% teacher recommendations. Members will be determined by a natural break in points. There is not a set number of members or a set audition score that determines the team. The final list will be posted the day following auditions, Saturday May 6th 2016 on the tcdanceteam Instagram.
  • Dance Captain for the 2017-2018 season, audition process will include the points from the audition, as well as, interview questions scored by the judges and team member votes. (See Captain Audition Packet).

General Information

Current 8th-11th grade students may audition for the Titan Dance teams. We are happy you have chosen to take part in the audition process for the 2017-2018 Titan Dance Team. Dance Team members must have technique, showmanship, strength, endurance, flexibility, dedication, a positive attitude, and a willingness to work hard and cooperate. Being a Titan Dance Team member is a lot of work and responsibility, not to be taken lightly, but is also very rewarding.

The Varsity Blue DanceTeam cheers and performs during halftime and pregame at all varsity football games, pep rallies, dance concerts on TCHS campus, as well as on other school campuses, local events, and will be competing at WCE competitions.

The Varsity Silver Dance Team cheers and performs pregame at all varsity football and basketball games, performs halftime at selected varsity football games, academic rallies, dance concerts on the TCHS campus, and potentially at other school campuses and local events.

The Titan Blue Varsity Dance Team, will compete in regional and national competitions in the Spring of 2018. It is imperative that dancers come with an open mind and positive attitude and be willing to learn various styles of choreography in which to compete. Styles may include (but not limited to): Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Character, Prop, and Pom Dance. Please understand that competition dance involves a “team first” mindset and requires a special level of commitment from EVERY member.

Due to performance conflicts at halftimes, pep rallies and competitions, Dance Team members must use discretion when choosing to participate in other teams/clubs on and off campus. Titan Dance Team must be your first priority and is a big time commitment. It is not fair to your teammates if you are not present for practices and performances. Any significant conflicts will result in suspension from performance or even dismissal from the Dance Team.

Tentative: Costs and Fundraisers

It is the intent of the Lake Elsinore School District and TCHS Dance Program to make it financially possible for any student to participate on Dance Team. Dance Team members will not be asked to pay for basic team necessities, such as, a competition team costume, or competition group fees. However, a dance team uniform, jacket, camp fee, apparel and competition choreography fair share contribution will be required. For any additional costs we will fundraise for extra items to benefit the entire team. The Dance Team does depend on fundraising, each year which is necessary and crucial to sustain the program. Please plan on participating with 100% effort in organized team fundraisers.

Apparel Cost ~ $250.00-$300.00

WCE Camp ~ $210.00 – July 28th -30th

Fundraisers may include but are not limited to:

-Day on the Quad (1st and 2nd semester)

-Kids Camp

-Middle School Dance Day

-Winter/Spring Showcases

-Restaurant Fundraiser – Yogurtland, Chili’s – etc.

-Garage Sale / Car Wash

I acknowledge that each participant has elected to participate in the TCHS dance workshop/audition at his/her own risk, I will not hold LEUSD employees or staff liable for any and all injuries that may occur while participating and that in spite of precautions and accident preventatives, injuries do occur. I authorize any licensed physician to render necessary emergency treatment for injury or serious illness when a parent cannot be reached and will assume all financial responsibility for such treatment. I acknowledge that the above-mentioned participant must have his/her own medical and/or accidental insurance.
