Welcome to Algebra 1! This course will extend your math skills into many types of algebraic equations and functions.

My favorite subjects in school were algebra and logic: making a big problem into something small. - MarioTestino

General Expectations

Be Respectful:Raise your hand to contribute and ask questions

Listen when others are talking

Use positive language, courtesy, and common sense

Keep our classroom clean

Be Responsible:Be prepared for class with all materials

Be in your seat when the bell rings

Inquire about your grades

Be a Graduate:Set goals

Keep your grades up

Make a future for yourself

Course Materials

You are responsible for bringing your supplies to class every day. Not being prepared will make this course substantially more difficult! Your required supplies are:

1” three ring binder; Paper (spiral notebook or loose leaf); Textbook; Pencil

Scientific calculators are available for your use during class; however you are welcome to bring your own. Cell phones may NOT be used as calculators.MOST importantly, bring your BRAIN each day!

Course Evaluation

Be on time, bring your materials, and work productively the full period. There will be an assignment almost every day, which will become homework if not completed during class time. These will be checked the next day. LATE WORK will receive at most 60% of the possible points. Active listening and good note taking skills are critical to academic success, so your notebook will be checked after each chapter test as part of your overall participation grade. The rest of your participation score will come from following the course expectations. Quizzes and tests will be given periodically, and there will be roughly one project per quarter.

CHEATING:Cheating will result in a grade of zero with no make-up possibility.

SEATING:Sit in your assigned seat each day.

PASSES:Sign in/Sign out when using a hall pass. Your three hall passes per quarter are YOUR responsibility. If they are lost, they are gone. They can be used only for the bathroom, water fountain, or your locker. No exceptions.

TESTS: If you miss a test, it is your responsibility to schedule a time to take it within 3 days of returning to school. Test and quiz corrections need to completed within one week. Schedule a time with Ms. Piper before or after school. It is the responsibility of the student to schedule this. Corrections may be eligible for some points back.

SUBS: Be polite and helpful. If there is an issue, please be respectful and then let Ms. Piper know about it. I would rather hear a bad report ABOUT a sub, than a bad report FROM the sub!
