Sub-task A

  1. Double click the icon of ‘Packet Tracer’.
  2. Select the wireless devices as shown below.
  1. Select the wireless device to be ‘link-sys’.
  1. Drag the ‘Linksys’ router to the central stage of packet tracer.
  1. Select the ‘End Device’ as computer.
  1. Drag the computer icon (i.e. PC0) to the central stage of packet tracer.
  1. Do it similarly to add another computer (i.e. PC1) to the central stage of packet tracer.

Sub-Task B

  • Objective: Replace the LAN card with a wireless LAN card for the computers PC0 and PC1.
  • Steps:

(1)Double click the computer icon PC0. The following window will pop up.

(2)Turn off the computer PC0 by pressing the red button as shown on the figure.

(3)Drag the original network card to the bottom right hand corner.

(4)Drag the Linksys-WMP300N network card to fit the black slot.

(5)Turn on the computer PC0 again by pressing the red button. (You see be able to see the green light from now on.)

(6)Do it similarly for another computer (i.e. PC1). Finally, your network diagram should look like the following:

Sub-Task C

  • Objectives: Give a name ‘CCSC’ to the wireless router and set the security mode as WEP.
  • Steps:

(1)Double click the icon of Linksys router, the following window will pop up:

(2)Change the Display Name as ‘CCSC’.

(3)Click the icon ‘Wireless’ from the left menu.

(4)Click the checkbox ‘WEP’ and then enter the key as ‘0000000000’.

(5)Your original network diagram will be changed as follows:

Sub-Task D

  • Objectives: Enable connection for the PC0 and PC1 to the wireless router.
  • Steps:

(1)Double click the icon PC0.

(2)From the window pop up, click the tag ‘Desktop’:

(3)Click the option PC Wireless:

(4)Click the tag ‘Connect’:

(5)Click the button [connect] to make connection.

(6)Enter the key as 0000000000 and then click the [connect] button again:

(7)Do it similarly as for another computer PC1. Your network diagram will be changed as shown below:

(8)Double-click PC0, and then select the ‘command prompt’ option:

(9)In command prompt PC>, type ‘ping 192.168.1.102’, you should be able to get a response like the following diagram:

(10) Save your file using the filename 3XYY where X is your class and YY is your class number. Example: if you are 3A No.1, save your file as 3A01.

(11)Upload your file to the eClass.

**Food for thought: (Bonus Task)

Can you check the IP addresses of PC0 and PC1? (Hint: Find the IPConfiguration command. )
