Cell phone and Electronics Policy

Channelview High School/Kolarik has adopted a NEW CELL PHONE POLICY. Starting 2016-2017 school year, there will be no cell phone use allowed in the hallways, classrooms or restrooms. Students will be permitted to use their cell phones in the cafeteria during breakfast and lunch or in the classroom if it is part of the current lesson plan. In the case that the teacher has included cell phone/device use as part of a lesson, there will be a sign marked clearly for administrators to see. Any student that violates this policy will receive disciplinary action.

Tardy Policy

There is also a NEW TARDY POLICY THIS YEAR (called the Hero system, refer to your student manual for more details). Reminder that students that arrive after the bell will not be let in but must go to their nearest AP to receive a tardy pass that counts against them with the HERO program. There is also a new classification for students that arrive after 15 minutes late and will be notes as EXTREMELY TARDY in the system.

Restroom Policy

In order to insure safety, students will not be allowed to leave the classroom in the first or last 30 minutes of each class period. It is best practice for a student to use restroom during the 7 minutes allowed of passing time. In the case that the student needs to use the restroom otherwise, they must wait after the first 30 minutes of class, and be caught up on their daily work in order to leave and use the restroom.

Discipline Plan

If a student violates a classroom rule or expectation, the following discipline plan with take place:

1st time – A warning will be documented.

2nd time – The parent will be contacted and the conduct grade may be lowered.

3rd time – A detention will given unless conduct renders an immediate discipline referral level

If a student does not show up for detention or does not reschedule with the teacher, a discipline referral will be sent to the corresponding Assistant Principal. *Any behavior higher than a class 2 will receive an automatic referral to the assigned AP.

Grading Policy for Foreign Language Department

50% - Daily Grades (Warm-ups and Daily Work)

35% - Major grades (Quizzes, Projects, and Presentations)

15% - Cumulativeexam (1 chapter test at the end of each 9 weeks)

*Cheating or “sharing” with another student on an exam or an individually assignment earns an automatic 0% grade. This includes giving or receiving information written or orally.

Tutorials will be held every Wednesday from 2:30 – 3:00. Outside of the designated tutoring time I am more than willing to help. Please see me to schedule a time when we can meet.

Curriculum Structure

The curriculum for Spanish 2 is organized in units. Each unit will last about 4 class periods (i.e. 4 A days or 4 B days). At the end of each unit, after the 4 class periods students are expected to take a quiz covering the material from the unit.

Each marking period there will be a chapter test that will cover 4 units. At the end of the first semester there will be a midterm exam that will cover the 8 units from Semester 1 and at the end of the year there will be a final exam that will cover the 16 units from the entire year.
