Job Title / Temporary Teaching Assistant (Behavioural & Pastoral Support) / Reporting to / Senior Leadership / Middle Leadership Team
Job Purpose / The primary role of the teaching assistant should be to work with teachers to raise the learning and attainment of pupils while also promoting their independence, self-esteem and social inclusion. They give assistance to pupils so that they can access the curriculum, participate in learning and experience a sense of achievement. (Professional standards for teaching assistants)

Supervising / There is no supervisory responsibility with this post / Contract / Hours: 8 per Week (Term Time Only)
Salary: H2 (£15,507 pro rata)
Key Responsibilities / To work with teachers, SENDCo and Family Pastoral Officer to support the education of Pupil Premium pupils who need particular help in overcoming barriers to learning, including emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Provide general and specific assistance to pupils and staff under the direction, guidance and direct supervision of the classroom teacher by carrying out the following duties:
  • Work with individuals or small groups of pupils, including Pupil Premium and SEN pupils, under the direct supervision of teaching staff and provide feedback to the teacher
  • Support pupils to understand instructions support independent learning and inclusion of all pupils
  • Support the teacher in behaviour management and keeping pupils on task
  • Support pupils in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate
  • Prepare and clear up learning environment and resources, including photocopying, filing and the display and presentation of pupils work and contribute to maintaining a safe environment
  • Attend relevant in-service training
  • Assist with break-time supervision including facilitating games and activities
  • Attend to sick or injured pupils and administer medicines where appropriate

  • Assist with escorting pupils on educational visits
  • Support pupils in using basic ICT
  • Work with pupils for whom English is not their first language
  • Assist pupils with eating, dressing and hygiene, as required, whilst encouraging independence.

Physical Effort:
The job may involve lifting children after falls or accidents.
The job is likely to involve working at low level e.g. sitting on the floor, working at low tables. The job may involve the physical restraint of pupils.
