Job Purpose
The provision of learning and development processes in order to develop the professional, business and/or technical skills required by the organisation.The postholder will contribute to the maintenance and updates of training records and training catalogue.
Delivering learning activities to a variety of audiences, this role will support the transfer of business and/or technical skills and knowledge and the promotion of professional attitudes in order to facilitate learning and development. Uses a range of techniques, resources and media (which might include eLearning, virtual classrooms, self-assessment, peer-assisted learning, simulation, and other current methods).
Main activities and responsibilities
  1. Teaches, instructs and/or trains students in IT knowledge, techniques and skills using appropriate methods, equipment and materials. The students may be of differing levels of ability and are likely to have no background in IT.
  2. Supervises students carrying out practical work, advising and assisting where necessary.
  3. Provides detailed instruction where necessary and responds to student questions, seeking advice in exceptional conditions beyond own competence.
  4. Assists with the development of examples and case study material for use within pre-defined courses
  5. Contributes to the maintenance and updates of training records, training catalogue and learning management system content
  6. Has achieved proficiency at Level 3 in another relevant SFIA Skill and has successfully accomplished the development of some training materials. Probably holds a professional/teaching qualification.
  7. Shows an aptitude for creating structured material in a clear understandable way.

Person Specification
  • Probably educated to bachelor degree level or holds a relevant professional qualification.
  • Has gained experience (some at Level 3) in any relevant SFIA Skill. May hold a teaching qualification.
  • Has a detailed practical understanding of the topics to be taught. Shows an interest in, and proven aptitude for, teaching, instruction and training activities. Has above average communication skills and a good personal presence.
  • Has gained experience in other SFIA Skills at Level 3, with exposure to training of IT practitioners.
  • Possesses an appreciation of the tools and support services available within the training arena.
  • Understanding of concepts and/or practical applications of one or more specialist topics in sufficient depth to develop and conduct learning interventions covering the topics.
  • Knowledge of the selection and application of information gathering methods, tools and techniques which are appropriate to the information required and the sources available.
  • Familiar with methods and techniques for delivering effective presentations, making effective use of own time and creating and delivering effective learning and development.

Special requirements
Able to undertake duties at different premises including any University campus as required.
Travel may be necessary from time to time in order to attend conferences and events, undertake University business and effectively represent the University in key professional networks.
CICT provides services across extended hours. A variety of shift patterns, duty management rotas and on-call arrangements will be applicable.
