STUDENT SERVICES EMERGENCY

BOOK LOAN PROGRAMS

Las PositasCollege is able to provide special book loans to students who find themselves in financial situations and are unable to purchase books. The college is able to provide this special loan program due to the commission we received from the college bookstore, which is operated by Follett Bookstore and the Dr.CarolClough Book Loan Program for business and economics students.

The following criteria are required:

(1)Student must be enrolled in current LPC class(es).

(2)Student is not receiving financial assistance from any other college program (e.g., CalWORKS, Financial Aid, EOPS, Veterans). If the student is, they will need to be referred by the area they have received funding from.

(3)Student will be able to pay back the loan by the end of the semester.

If yes to all three items above, you might be eligible for a special book loan. Here is what is required:

a)Contact Ginger Ripplinger, Office of the Dean of Student Services, to set up an appointment for a preliminary interview by either calling (925) 424-1421 or email . The first appointment generally takes 15 minutes, and the second interview appointment may take up to 30 minutes.

b)If the preliminary interview goes well, you will be provided loan documentation paperwork. This will need to be completely filled out. One of the steps required is to get the book costs from the Bookstore.

c)Be aware that there is a required loan process period of 72 hours (3 school days).

d)Provide Student Services with a payment plan.

When a student receives a loan, a hold is placed on their student record. This hold prohibits them from dropping, adding, requesting transcripts or IGETC, viewing their student record on-line, etc. They will be able to receive this information by working with Student Services. Once the loan has been paid off, the hold on the student record is removed. Failure to not pay back the loan, after two full semesters of inactive status, results in the information being provided to a collection agency.
