After hours emergencies

Council’s after hours’ service can be used to report emergencies (e.g. unable to gain access or to secure the room, required equipment not working, broken glass panel or similar). Council will endeavour to resolve any issues however some issues may not be able to be rectified immediately.

Call out charges will apply if they relate to the misuse of the centre or hirer error. For example, a hirer may be charged a call out fee if council is required to open a room because the hirer omitted to pick up the key. This fee will be deducted from the bond prior to releasing the balance to the hirer. Minor issues such broken crockery can be reported the following business day.

Kitchen features

In the Isabella Griffin Room there are basic kitchen facilities available to hirers. Equipment includes

  • Stove top 4 burner
  • Bar fridge
  • Quick boiler

Please note that there is no cutlery and crockery provided with this hire.

The hirer is required to provide their own cooking utensils, serving equipment, dishwashing liquid, wash cloths and tea towels.

Amenities

Female, male and disabled toilet facilities are located off the main foyer. There is a baby change facility available in the disabled toilet.

Bi fold doors

There is a bi-fold door dividing the two rooms which can be opened to accommodate large events. Hirers are required to collect the bi-fold door key from customer service when collecting the centre access swipe card and key.

Community Centre inspections/orientations

Council provides prospective hirers with a complimentary inspection prior to booking to ensure the venue is suitable. Prospective hirers wanting to undertake additional inspections may only do so when other inspections are being conducted. Inspections are conducted between 8.30am - 4.30pm and 5.00pm - 7.00pm business days and are subject to the room being available.

Storage of equipment

Hirers using the Isabella Griffin Room must return all chairs, tables and facility equipment to the position it was originally set up. An illustration displaying how the room must be set up at the end of your booking/s can be found on the wall near the door inside the Isabella Griffin Room.

Hirers are unable to store equipment at the facility.

Uncollected goods

All hirer property must be removed by the end of the hire period, unless special arrangements have been made. Any property left on the premises may be removed and disposed of at council’s discretion.

Loading areas

There is a large bi-fold glass door that allows access for large display items such as boats, and cars etc.

Audio visual equipment

There is no audio visual equipment located in the Isabella Griffin Room.

Equipment operation

Instructions for the use of all equipment can be found in the Venue Information Folder located in the foyer.

Stage lighting

There is no stage lighting available in the centre.

Air conditioning

The air conditioning is programmed to turn on automatically prior to your booking time. There is an air-conditioning over-ride switch located in the kitchen that will turn the air conditioning on and off should it not come on automatically.

Lighting

The hall’s main light switch is located on the right hand side of the entry door. Lights must to be turned off at this switch at the end of the hire period.

Automatic doors

The Isabella Griffin Room has automatic doors on the far eastern end of the building. Once the alarm has been disarmed the doors can be turned on from inside the room. Instructions for the operation of the automatic doors can be found in the Venue Information Folder located in the foyer.

Cleaning requirements

Hirers are responsible for ensuring that the hall has been packed up and cleaned as outlined in the Conditions of Hire. Cleaning includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Furniture and equipment must be wiped clean and returned to its original position.
  • All floors are swept and any spills mopped with warm water only. No chemicals are to be used on the floor.
  • All rubbish is emptied into the industrial / wheelie bins located outside in the car park area.
  • Mops, buckets, brooms, dustpans and garbage bin liners, are supplied and are stored in the hall cleaning equipment cupboard located in the foyer. All cleaning items must be returned to the cleaning cupboard after use.

Cleaning time is to be included in the hall hire period. Arrangements may be made for the hirer to come back the next day to clean, but this time must be booked and paid for from the first available time the following morning. If hirer cleaning obligations are not fulfilled, additional charges may apply and moneys deducted from the security bond.

Rubbish removal

All rubbish is emptied into the industrial bin located outside in the car park area. A key for the industrial bin is on the swipe card ring provided by council.

Decorations

Acceptable decorations must not be placed or affixed in any way that may cause damage to any part of the venue (e.g. interior/exterior floors, walls or other surfaces) and must be removed at the conclusion of the hire period.

Naked flames of any kind, smoke or haze machines, jumping castles, helium balloons, BBQs and spits are not permitted inside the centre under any circumstances.

Broken items

If you find something is broken, please ensure you put an ‘out of order tag’ (if appropriate) on the item and contact council to report it. Tags can be found in the Venue Information Folder located in the foyer.

Smoking area

In accordance with state legislation, no smoking is permitted in or around the facility. Smokers must ensure they are a minimum of five metres from any entranceway.

WiFi

There is no WiFi available in the centre.

Car parking

There is ample unrestricted shared parking at the front of the centre. There are also disabled parking bays located at the front of the centre.

Access to the Isabella Griffin Room

Access to the communal foyer and the Isabella Griffin Room is via a key. The swipe card reader is located on the left hand side of the main door to disarm the Isabella Griffin Room.

Collection of security cards

Casual hirers

For casual hirers, the access card and key is available for collection two business days prior to commencement of the booking and is to be returned on the first business day following the conclusion of the hire. The access card is available for collection, during business hours, 8.30am to 5.00pm week days, from any of council’s Customer Service Centres located at:

  • Strathpine Customer Service Centre, 220 Gympie Road, Strathpine (access from Hall Street).

After hours’ key returns can be made at the Strathpine Customer Service Centre, in the drop boxes located on the left hand side of the entry door.

Regular hirers

Groups who book the centre on a regular basis may be provided with a permanent security swipe card.

Access to rooms

Instructions for use are as follows:

The light will be red when the door is locked and the alarm is on.

  1. Swipe the card once in front of the card reader marked Isabella Griffin Room and the light will then turn green. This indicates that the door is unlocked and the area has been disarmed.
  2. To secure the area after your event, close the door behind you once all guests have left the centre.
  3. Slowly swipe the card in front of the card reader three (3) times. On the second swipe the system will beep twice.
  4. After approximately 5 to 30 seconds, the reader will beep and the light will turn red to indicate the facility is secure.
  5. Exit the Centre and lock the front door.
