General Speech Communication Content Standards

All Kamehameha Students should be able to:

1.  Use oral communication to create meaning, influence thought, and make decisions;

2.  Utilize appropriate oral communication organizational patterns to communicate;

3.  Demonstrate formal speaking skills including effective use of content, delivery, and media;

4.  Utilize active and critical listening skills;

5.  Demonstrate the ability to manage or overcome communication anxiety;

6.  Use research skills to locate, analyze, and select credible support to effectively communicate a message;

7.  Demonstrate awareness of major local, national, and international issues affecting students;

8.  Demonstrate respect for self and others when communicating; and

9.  Demonstrate the ability to use appropriate language according to the demands of the social context.
