This ceremony is a symbol of the love that has led them here and marks a watershed in their relationship. It is the most meaningful way they know of communicating and sharing their joy at being together. Marriage is all about laying down one’s life for his or her partner. The poet Roy Croft once wrote: I love you, not for what you are, but what I am, when I amwith you. I love you not only for what you have made of yourself, but what you are making of me. I love you for the part of me that you bring out. You have done it without a touch, without a sign. You have done it by being yourself.

Do you, “…Groom …”, declare that as far as you know there is no lawful impediment to your proposed marriage with “…Bride…”, here present, and that you call all here present to witness that you take “…Bride …” as your lawful wife? I do.

Into this relationship these two persons “…Groom … and …Bride …” now desire to enter; therefore if anyone can show just cause why they may not lawfully be joined together in marriage, let him or her now declare it ……; or else hereafter hold his or her peace.
