+ 12th Sunday in OT (Year C) / 19th June 2016
TODAY we dedicate a Day for Life when we celebrate the inherent DIGNITY OF EVERY HUMAN LIFE. This week let us find ways of showing and demonstrating our tenderness, our compassion and our concern for others by standing up for the most vulnerable in our society and truly trying to protect the gift of life which comes from God. The Mary’s Meals and Sri Lankan collections were two ways that we have shown this but there are opportunities every day to celebrate life. Let us not miss them.
One way that we can do this is to stay away from PORNOGRAPHY. I was rather shocked when someone said to me during the week that they didn’t think pornography was a sin. Here is the what the catechism says in 412: “Someone who misuses love by detaching human sexuality from the intimacy of a committed, loving relationship between two spouses and turns it into commercial goods sins seriously. Anyone who produces, buys, or consumes pornographic materials violates human dignity and seduces others to sin.”
First Holy Communion celebrations continue - Sunday afternoon at 2pm with an average of 19 children receiving Holy Communion at each Mass. This will be a normal Sunday Mass and you are welcome to join the Mass if you wish. Please keep the children and their families in your prayers.

Deepening Faith

Proclaim Westminster is an initiative of our diocese responding to the call of Pope Francis for our parishes to be more missionary. In the survey of our parish you asked to have some weekly catechesis in the newsletter. These questions and answers are taken from YouCat.

124. Why is the Church more than an institution?

The Church is more than an institution because she is a MYSTERY that is simultaneously human and divine.True love does not blind a person but rather makes him see. With regard to the CHURCH, this is precisely the case: Viewed from outside, the Church is only a historical institution with historical achievements, but also mistakes and even crimes—a Church of sinners. But that is not looking deep enough. After all, Christ became so involved with us sinners that he never abandons his Church, even if we were to betray him daily. This inseparable union of the human and the divine, of sin and grace, is the mystery of the Church. Seen with the eyes of faith, the Church is therefore indestructibly holy.

125. What is unique about the People of God?

The founder of this people is God the Father. Its leader is Jesus Christ. Its source of strength is the Holy Spirit. The entryway to the People of God is Baptism. Its dignity is the freedom of the children of God. Its law is love. If this people remains faithful to God and seeks first the kingdom of God, it changes the world. [781-786]In the midst of all the peoples on earth, there is one people that is like no other. It is subject to no one but God alone. It is supposed to be like salt, which adds flavor; like yeast, which permeates everything; like light, which drives away the darkness. Anyone who belongs to the People of God must count on coming into conflict with people who deny God’s existence and disregard his commandments. In the freedom of the children of God, however, we have nothing to fear, not even death.Read more:Catechism of the Catholic Church 781-786.
