AZSWANA Scholarships

The AZ SWANA Scholarship was established to provide scholarships to students preparing for a career in the solid waste industry and to assist members and their dependents achieve their educational goals. College scholarships are awarded to individuals accepted and/or enrolled in a degree program at a community college or four-year university.

Scholarships

AZSWANA is pleased to announce that scholarships of $2,000will be awarded to one or more applicants. Winners of the scholarships will be invited to attend AZSWANA’s Annual Awards Banquet.

Who is eligible?

In order to be eligible for one of the AZSWANA scholarships, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a candidate for an associate’s or bachelor’s degree at a community college or four-year university
  • Not receiving reimbursement for tuition from an employer or from any other outside sourceScholarship is awarded in May of each year for the following academic year.

Scholarship Categories

Category I: Graduating high school seniors or graduate equivalent certified candidates who have been accepted for enrollment in a community college, four-year college, or a university (any program). Eligible candidates must be a son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter of a SWANA Member (sponsor) in good standing.

Category II: Currently enrolled full-time college or university students who are entering their junior or senior undergraduate year and pursuing a degree in environmental science, engineering, or other suitable major related to the field of solid waste management.

Category III: SWANA Chapter member in good standing who is pursuing educational opportunities, training or professional development. Applicant must be matriculating towards an undergraduate degree; or to coursework, training or professional development in the solid waste, or an environment related field.

What is the Selection Process and Deadline?

Applications will be accepted from through May 1st. Applications must be postmarked or date stamped by May 1st to be considered.

The selection process involves an initial screening of applications to ensure that the application has been completed in full, and all instructions have been followed by the applicant. Failure to complete all required sections of the application, and follow instructions will result in disqualification of the application. Applications that meet all of the submission requirements will then be reviewed by the Scholarship Selection Committee. Applicants will be notified of the Scholarship Selection Committee’s decision by email on or before May 31st.
