SELBYLANESCHOOL REQUESTS DONATIONS OF LIBRARY BOOKS AND REFERENCE MATERIALS

Atherton, CA, June 19, 2006 –Selby Education Foundation, a community-based private non-profit organization dedicated to raisingfunds for SelbyLaneSchool, is looking for individual donations and businessesto support the Selby Lane School Library. Donations includingnew reference materials, and newfiction and non-fiction books, willprovide critical research and reading tools for Selby Lane students and teachers. All donationswill be tax deductible and can be sent to the attention of Selby Education Foundation (SEF) at 50 Woodside Plaza Suite 513, Redwood City,CA94061.

Selby Lane School, a Kindergarten through Eighth grade public school serving Atherton and unincorporated Redwood City, is working to provide new reading materials to its students. In 1999,local bond funds paid for the construction of a new standalone library on the SelbyLaneSchool campus. Despite this exceptional facility, resources to purchase books and materials have been exhausted and many of the bookshelves remain empty. Furthermore, the average age of the books in the library today is 12 years old.

“We recently underwent an analysis of our library book and reference collection using TitleWise and discovered we lag significantly behind other public elementary school libraries on all book categories with the exceptionof natural sciences and mathematics,” said Linda McCoy, Selby Lane School Librarian. “As we do not have funds to update and expand our collection, we are very excited to have the support of Selby Education Foundation in providing essential reading material to fuel our children’s education and imaginations.”

Interested donors can provide a check or gift certificate for purchasingvarious new reference materials and books including a “World Book” encyclopedia, two “The New Book of Knowledge,” 30 Thesaurus books, five Atlas books, and 20 biographical books. For additional information on materials required by SelbyLaneSchool’s library, please visitthe SEF website at
