SCHOOL-LEVEL PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY

Parental Involvement Policy

Panorama High School, in conjunction with the parents, developed a school parent involvement policy. Panorama High School will hold an Annual Title I meeting at the beginning of each school year to inform, review and distribute the Parent Involvement Policy to faculty, staff, students and parents. We will inform parents of their rights under the categorical programs and how they can actively participate to improve the school programs. Panorama High School will survey parents and try to accommodate parents by scheduling meetings at convenient times, and providing reimbursement for transportation and child care in order to increase parental involvement.

Panorama High School will engage parents in the planning and implementation of the categorical programs, including budget development and recommendations through monthly School Site Council, English Learner and Compensatory Education Advisory Committee meetings. We will review with parents the Single School Plan, Parent Involvement Policy (PIP), and Parent-School Compact on an annual basis to address the needs of the school community.

Panorama will disseminate information in a timely manner about curriculum, assessments, and expected proficiency levels for student achievement. Panorama High School will consider written comments submitted by our parents in regards to the school’s plan.

Shared Responsibilities for High Student Academic Achievement

Panorama has developed a school-parent-student compact that describes the school, student’s and parent’s expectations to support student academic achievement. The compact will be reviewed and modified by the different committees on an annual basis.

The school’s responsibilities will include providing a high quality curriculum and a supportive and effective learning environment.

The parent’s responsibilities will include the monitoring of the student’s attendance, work habits, test scores and overall academic progress.

The student’s responsibilities will include working and reaching academic achievement and the State’s high standards. The students will accomplish this by attending school on a regular basis, and by completing all homework, class work and class projects on time.

In order to work as an effective partnership, there will be communication between teachers, parents and students. This communication will be accomplished by having two parent-teacher conferences, a Back to School Night, an Open House as well as CEAC, ELAC, and SSC meetings where parents will be kept informed and have the opportunity to review the school’s compact. There will also be four progress reports sent to parents each semester. Parents will have the opportunity to work as volunteers, visit classrooms with prior approval and have the ability to make appointments with teachers to discuss student achievement

Building Parent Involvement

Panorama High School encourages positive, effective involvement of the parents and the community. Along with the staff, parents will develop and distribute a survey to evaluate the effectiveness of the parental involvement. Throughout the school year, Panorama High School will inform parents about the academic content standards and assessments including CST, CAHSEE and quarterly assessment results. Teachers will provide course syllabi and grading policies for each subject.

To encourage parent participation Panorama has a School Volunteer Program and parent recruitment at certain school activities like Back-to-School Night and Open House. In addition, Panorama will offer workshops covering health care, college information, state and local test results, and discipline concerns. Parent Institute will offer parenting classes on campus. Parents will be issued workbooks, literacy packets and other supplemental materials to support training.

Each month parents will collaborate together with the staff on ELAC and SSC committees to educate all participants on how to communicate and work together effectively to improve student achievement.

Panorama High School will use a variety of means to relay information to parents, i.e.Panorama’s website, information nights, automated messaging, and report cards.

Accessibility

Panorama High School shall provide full opportunities for the participation of parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities, and parents of migratory children. Meetings and information will be presented in languages and formats that are comprehendible.
