Documentation that must accompany the application:

- school leaving certificates and other relevant documents showing the applicant's previous education;
- a letter of admission or invitation from an educational institution in Norway;
- a study plan;
- a financing plan (required only for studies of more than one year's duration);
- documentation showing how the stay is to be financed for the year being applied for (not required
the American Field Service, Youth for Understanding, STS High School Foundation or Rotary Clubs, or
who are to study at the Red Cross Nordic United World College);
- a copy of the loan application if the studies are to be funded through the State Educational Loan Fund;
- documentation to the effect that the applicant has obtained accommodation (not required for the students of the
American Field Service, Youth for Understanding, STS High School Foundation or Rotary Clubs);
- when also applying for a permit to take part-time employment:
both filled in.
Persons applying for a residence permit on the basis of the international exchange of students or the Agreement concerning the Nordic Community of Education must provide documentation to that effect:
that the application concerns exchange under the aegis of a charitable organisation or public agency
or is a feature of the county municipal internationalisation plan; or
the admission to the school in question is authorised in the Agreement.
The application will not be processed and may be rejected if:
21 / the study plan, letter of admission or any other required documentation
does not accompany the application;
the documentation is inadequate; or
the applicant otherwise fails to provide the information required.

If the application is filed through a Norwegian foreign service mission in a country other than the country of which the applicant is a national, the applicant's reason for residing in that country must be stated, cf. Immigration Regulations (Utlendingsforskriftene) Section 12. The duration of the applicant's residence in that country must also be stated. Information must be provided as to the applicant's possibility of return and whether this must take place within a certain time limit.
