Electrical product of the year unveiled

MK Electric has taken the top prize in coveted industry awards for its newly developed self-powered wireless light switches.

Winning the Best New Product category in the SELECT Electrotechnical Awards 2008, MK Electric successfully fended off some very tough competition and accepted the honour at the high profile awards dinner held at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Glasgow and attended by 350 guests.

Competitors in the Best New Product category had to illustrate particular instances where the product demonstrated excellence, high production standards and compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.

In nominating their winner, the judges said: “Never seen before, this truly innovative product hugely impressed the full judging panel, gaining a remarkable total of 29 out of 30 possible points. This product is set to become a standard feature in future installation work.”

The wireless switch powers itself by converting small amounts of ambient energy and can operate lights up to a range of 30 metres. Being wireless, the switches are very easy to mount and there is total flexibility in where they can go. As there are no batteries, the maintenance is minimal.

A representative at MK Electric commented: “These switches have made it much easier to install and relocate switches and give total flexibility to location. We knew we were on to a good thing when we developed the technology and it has been very successful in practice.”

SELECT isScotland's trade association for the electrical, electronics and communications systems industry and holds the awards in association with specialist magazine CABLEtalk.
