Overall Purpose of Role / To receive emergency calls from the public, promptly mobilise the appropriate resources to resolve any situations and arrange for the provision of ongoing support at operational incidents. To contribute to safeguard the community from fire and other emergencies.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
  • Create and maintain a good working relationship with colleagues and contribute to decision-making for the effectiveness of the team

  • To attend training courses as required and to take personal responsibility to maintain competence against the relevant National Occupational Standards for the role.
  • Mentor, Train and Assess personnel to the required standard, according to any specialist role performed
  • Monitor, Test and Record equipment and resources to maintain operational readiness
  • Establish the nature and location of emergency calls
  • Mobilise and support emergency operational resources
  • To offer survival advice to callers in danger
  • To contribute to the evacuation and reinstatement of an emergency fire service control room in the event of any emergency
  • Contribute to the provision of specialised information to support operational incidents
  • Attend operational incidents in a support role, as part of a team in accordance with brigade policy
  • Contribute to caring for the environment
  • Liaise with key agencies to support incidents and through community safety initiatives
  • Contribute to projects as identified through the brigade plan and provide reports as required
  • Contribute to local initiatives arising from the watch and community plan in pursuit of organisational objectives

  • Skilled with use of Microsoft Office packages, including good level of accuracy and typing rate

  • Ability to work as part of a team and as an individual in calm and collected manner during pressurised situations
  • Ability to collate and interpret information via telecommunication and relay this accurately
  • Accurate Literacy and numeracy skills

  • Ability to operate a VDU keyboard to a high standard
