Renaissance Poetry Project a Standards Based Assessment

Group Poetry Assignment Guidelines

Students will work in groups to analyze the poetry of William Wordsworth. Each person in your group is responsible for doing an equal quantity of work, so that no one person feels the burden of the entire assignment. Your group will create a poster on the assigned poem meeting the following criteria. Each group will give an oral presentation over their poem

Part I- Author Life and Literary Style ____/15

You will research the author’s life and literary style. Report on the aspect of the author’s life that relates to the subject of the poem.

Part II- Poetry Analysis _____/35

Analyze the poem and discuss it using the TP-CASST method or any other poetry analysis method. The group must agree on the analysis, and it must be complete.

Part III- Literary Connection_____/25

Find a literary connection(s) that your group has with your poem. The literary connection can be a movie, a book, or a song. How does your poem remind you of this other piece of literature. Be very specific, using lines from the poem or specific information about the poem. Be equally specific when referencing the other piece of literature.

Part IV- Illustration_____/10

Draw a picture/illustration that reflects the subject of the poem.

Part V- Presentation _____/15

Not only will you be graded on content (as measured above), but this area focuses on presentation style. Is the poster visually appealing? Are there grammar errors on the poster?
