Dear Parent/Carer,

Re: Year 7 Activities

During the spring and summer terms of 2016Year 7 students will have the opportunity to take part in the following EXTRA-CURRICULAR activities:

JuneDanbury Camp Week£160*

JulyFrench trip to Le Touquet£50*

*Approximate costs at present

DANBURY YOUTH CAMP: 13TH – 17TH JUNE 2016

The Stanway School has been developing a Residential Experience for a number of years, and in June 2015 we are planning to take all Year 7 students to spend a week under canvas at Danbury Youth Camp.

The trip will take place in the week 13th – 17th June. The nature of the work covered at camp spans many subjects and includes activities such as Orienteering, Problem Solving and Outdoor and Adventurous activities, but this is just a fraction of what the students gain from the week’s experience. Living, eating, sleeping and working together as a team bonds the group together in many ways, promoting qualities such as reliability, tolerance and understanding. We feel that it really rounds off their first year at Stanway in a positive way and enables them to establish firm friendships for the remainder of their school career and beyond.

The total cost per student will be approximately £160; this includes transport, food, equipment and insurance.

LE TOUQUET: 24TH JUNE 2016

The Modern Languages Department is planning a day visit to the attractive seaside town of Le Touquet on Friday 24th June. Students will spend time exploring the town of Le Touquet and will be able to practise newly learned phrases, buy souvenirs and order a drink or ice cream in a café. They will also have a worksheet of activities to complete during the day. This is a very popular trip and students always return with fond memories of a very positive experience.

The total cost per student will be approximately£50, which covers coach and travel via the Eurotunnel, insurance, worksheet and a souvenir wristband. We can take a maximum of 180 students, so if the trip is oversubscribed, we will have no alternative other than to select students by drawing names from a hat.

In order to participate in this educational visit EACH STUDENT MUST HAVE THEIR OWN PASSPORT. An EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) will also be required for each child. If you need to apply for one, you can do so using the following link: Please check in advance that neither of these documents have expired.

Under the School Governors’ Charging and Remissions Policy, there is a charge for residential trips and extra-curricular activities.

MOUNTFITCHET CASTLE: 26TH OR 27TH APRIL 2016

In addition to the above, there will also be a History Curriculum trip to Mountfitchet Castle on 26th or 27th April 2016. This trip will take place during the school day and will cost approximately £15;this includes transport costs and admission to the castle. Under the School Governors’ Charging and Remissions Policy, we request a voluntary contribution towards the cost of this activity as it is a curriculum trip. Although parents are under no obligation to make any contribution, a student will not be excluded from the Mountfitchet trip for this reason. However, where such trips are dependent upon voluntary contributions and if insufficient contributions are raised, the activity will be cancelled.

As you will see the total approximate cost of these activities is £225 and in order to help with your family budget, we would like to offer you the opportunity to talk to your son or daughter about the above trips and to start payingfor themnow so that you can spread the cost. If you are interested in doing so, you will be able start making payments for both of the trips via ParentPay. You can pay as little or as much as you like, whenever you like, but the full cost for each trip must be made before it takes place. Further details of each trip and the final cost will be notified to you nearer the time.

Yours sincerely,

Scott Holder

Co-Headteacher
