RE-CREATE A MASTERPIECE ART HISTORY/ART SHOW PROJECT

  1. Students, Grades 4-8 are to find any artist they like and copy a piece of their artwork. This is only to include visual,2 dimensional (2D) artwork. No 3D art, architecture, sculpture, music, writings, cartoons, tattoos, etc. If you’re not sure ask me.
  2. All 2D work must be at least 12”x12”, and must be on poster/illustration board only. NOTE: Some poster boards have a shiny and a dull side, use the dull side.
  3. All work will be done in crayon and/or color pencils only. NOTE: if the original artwork is done in black and white, copy it in black and white. If the original art- work is in color, copy it in color. Try to keep colors as accurate as possible. No white is to show, unless there is white within the artwork itself.
  4. All works of art are to include: a) ON A SEPARATE PIECE OF PAPER, two or more, TYPED paragraphs, describing the artist, and the piece of art being copied. Include the date the art was made (mainly the year,) and a bibliography. If you cannot find the date the piece was made, then choose another artist. NO PLAGIARISM! b) A COLOR PHOTOCOPY OF THE WORK BEING REPRODUCED.
  5. Keep the artwork clean. Do not bend or roll the posterboard.
  6. All artwork is to be handed in without matting or frames.
  7. THIS PROJECT WILL COUNT FOR ONE HALF OF YOUR 4th QUARTER GRADE.
  8. If your class is on Wednesday, your project is due April 15th, If your class is on Thursday, your project is due April 16th. If your class is on Friday, your project is due April 17th. ABSOLUTELY NO LATE ARTWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED! You have more than 13 weeks to complete this project. DO NOT WAIT FOR THE LAST MINUTE! ABSOLUTELY NO PARENTAL/GUARDIAN/GRANDPARENT/SIBLINGS/ANYONE OTHER THAN THE STUDENT THEMSELVES/HELP!!! If you need any help, have whoever’s helping you, show you on another piece of paper. IF I PERCEIVE ANY WORK ON THE FINAL PAPER DONE BY ANYONE OTHER THAN YOURSELF, YOU WILL RECEIVE AN AUTOMATIC “F’! NO EXCEPTIONS! NO TRACING!
  9. Your full name, and date, and grade should be on the BACK of the artwork and photocopy. It should be on the FRONT of the report and bibliography. The bibliography can be done on same page as the report.
  10. GRADING: You will receive up to 65 points for the artwork, and 35 points for the color photocopy/paragraphs/bibliography combination. You will lose 35 points if any part of the combination is missing. You will lose 20 points for: a) incorrect size, b) incorrect medium, c) not typed, d) unnecessaryamounts of white space, e) name/grade/date not included, or not in right space. 100-93 is an A, 92-85 is a B, 84-77 is a C, 76-70 is a D, 69-0 is a F.
  11. Work from this Art History Project will be used for the Annual Art Show. There is a limit on wall space, so sadly enough, all the art cannot be shown. I will personally select the artwork from the Art History Project for the Art Show.
  12. All artwork selected for the Art Show can, if you choose, be sold. All work will be sold for $25.00, minus 20% commission ($5.00). $2.50 of the commission will go to the church, the other $2.50 will go to the Art Awards.
  13. All participating classes will critique and vote 5 award winners from the Art Show. All pictures will be numbered, not named, during voting. Voters will also be anonymous. Tie breakers will be decided by myself. Award money will be split as shown; 1st place, 30% of the award commission from sold pieces/ 2nd place, 25%/ 3rd place, 20%/ 4th place, 15%/ 5th place 10%. If no art is sold, no award money will be given. Awards will still be handed out.

All artwork will be sold at the night of the opening only, no other times. Artwork will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. Cash only. Exact change would be helpful. All work, sold and unsold, will be returned, after the show has been taken down. The Art Opening will be at St. Philip’s on May 13th, 2015 at 5:30-6:30 .

This project will give you an opportunity to look into the history of art, and be amazed at the visual wonders humans have imagined and documented though the arts over the ages. It also will provide you with some insight into the physical process that went into the piece of artwork you chose to reproduce. And finally, you may feel the artist’s self-esteem that comes from a job well done, while you watch others enjoy your work in anactual Art Show, possibly even winning an award, or getting paid for your art, like a real professional artist.
