Project Coordinator – Vaccine Coordinator

MCD Public Health, a division of Medical Care Development (MCD), Inc., is seeking a talented professional to serve as a Project Coordinator to provide staff support for the Maine CDC, Division of Infectious Diseases (DID), Maine Immunization Program (MIP). The position will be housed at the Key Bank Building with DPH staff in Augusta. The position requiresa person with both a keen attention to detail and follow through to meet deadlines. The Project Coordinator positionisa short term (October 19, 2015 through December 31, 2016), full-time, 40 hour per week position that is eligible for MCD’s benefit package.

The Project Coordinator shall submit site visit reports directly to the Provider Education Assessment Referral (PEAR) system with paper copies submitted to the MIP Health Program Manager – Quality Assurance. Report data shall be entered into PEAR no more than 10 working days from the date of the site visit. MCDPH staff will generate Childhood and Adolescent Immunization coverage reports for providers from the MIP Immunization Registry quarterly. Staff will also generate Wastage and Distribution reports quarterly. Staff will assist with customer service, educational calls, and on-site training for enrolled providers during the course of VFC site visits.

The Project Coordinator will have primary responsibility for the following tasks within MIP:

  • A minimum of 100 Vaccines for Children (VFC) compliance visits to minimize the potential for fraud and maximize the appropriate use of federally supplied vaccines to the state of Maine.
  • Provider outreach and education to ensure safe storage, handling and recording of such vaccines.
  • Training and curriculum development to ensure that providers are aware of dynamic recommendations and requirements for the storage, handling, and accountability of federally purchased vaccines.
  • A minimum of 25 Unannounced Storage & Handling visits.
  • AFIX support up to 50 visits and/or follow-up.
  • PEARS/AFIX entry of site visit questionnaire data.
  • Quarterly Child and Adolescent Immunization coverage reports.
  • Quarterly Wastage and Distribution reports.
  • Education and customer service calls.
  • Serve as the Adult Vaccine Coordinator for MIP and, as such, work to expand vaccine knowledge and accessibility among the adult population in the State of Maine by providing education and information to both health care providers and members of the public.
  • Work with the Adolescent Coordinator and AFIX Coordinator to meet stated goals in the State Health Improvement Plan to increase HPV vaccination coverage by expanding knowledge and vaccine accessibility among VFC providers in the state of Maine.

The individual in this position will interact with key internal and external stakeholders and therefore must possess excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree. Applicants should have a combination of six (6) years of education, training, and/or experience in health, public health or related fields. Applicants with a master’s degree in public health or a related field and experience with immunization and working with health care providers is a plus. Competencies among successful candidates are expected to be consistent with those identified by the Public Health Foundation Council on Linkages as Level II.
