Scenario: As a National Governing Body representative you have been given the responsibility of producing material that can be sent out to junior clubs and development centres. Your role is to promotefair play and a wider understanding for participants and officials involved in your sport. The materials will be used across all age ranges to raise awareness of the rules and regulations that govern your sport

Produce a PowerPoint to describe the rules and regulations that govern your sport. This should be a summary of the rules as stated by the governing body of the sport and not simply a ‘copy’ of the rules.

Summarise the key rules and regulations to include such things as:

  • Court/pitch layout
  • Facilities
  • Equipment
  • Safety (of players and spectators) think about CRB checks for coaches, first aid qualifications, stadium safety etc.
  • Scoring
  • Methods of victory

  • Playing surface

You will be assessed formally on one occasion, but will be given the opportunity to practise and develop over the duration of the unit. The key areas that you will be assessed on are:

  • Control of the game
  • Effective use of the scoring system
  • Ensuring health and safety of participants
  • Relationship with others (i.e. coaches, participants spectators)
  • Conflict management

  1. Demonstrate further the roles and responsibilities of the official; explain the application of the rules and regulations in 3 different situations.

These may be examples from your own experience of officiating or from situations you have observed. An example could be how the official dealt with misconduct or a penalty.
