Programmable Route Numbers

A programmable route number allows one destination to have any route number selected, whilst only appearing once in the list. In instances where there are multiple routes going to the samedestination, this has the advantage of reducing the number of destinations that are entered in HELEN and therefore, reducing the size of the list.

Creating programmable route numbers in HELEN

  1. In order to create a programmable route number within a destination, the route number has to be changed to a percentage sign ‘%’ in the Sign Designer.

Figure 1 – adding % sign to route number in HELEN

If the sign is in graphic mode the percentage sign will not display in the sign mimic. However, if it is in super-x it will display as ‘444’, as below,

Figure 2 – Sign mimic for programmable route numbers in graphic and super-x mode

  1. “Route Num.” will need to be selected in the Console configurations:

Options  Console config.  “Profile 0” and “Modify”

Figure 3 – Edit Profile 0

  1. Click on the “Advanced” tab and select “Route Num”

Figure 4 – Console config.  Profile 0  Advanced  Route Num.

It is worth noting that a list can be made up of exclusively programmable route numbers or can be added into a standard list that has fixed route numbers too. In instances where the route number is particularly long e.g. “N700” it might be easier to leave this set in HELEN so it does not have to be manually entered by the driver.

Position #F function of Route Number Signs

In a programmable route number list, route number signs do not necessarily have to be configured in the HELEN list. If the address switch of the route number signs is switched to #F it will automatically receive the route number information and display using the fonts in the sign software. This has the advantage of saving space.

Note - this will only be practical for exclusively programmable route number lists.
