Program Overview – Residential CampProgram

(2011 – 4 years running)

This is a dynamic 7 day 24 hour overnight Camp focusing on assisting and educating legally blind and/or blind youth between the ages of 13 to 17 years of age to learn and participate in a life skills program. The maximum capacity for participants is (8). The camp is held the last week in July at NazarethCollege.

Mission: To provide exposure to independent living skills.

This years camp dates are: Saturday, July 23, 2011 through Saturday, July 30, 2011.

CampActivities: Participants will have exposure and instruction in many different areas, including but not limited to; travelling (different transportation options – RTS bus line, Medical Motors, Lift Line). Participants will also learn how to match their cloths, grocery shop, cook, cleanand other life skills of a domestic nature. Daily recreational activities may include Red Wings game, Sea Breeze, Self Defense for Visually Impaired (Karate) and arts and crafts.

2011 Temporary Staff Opportunities

  1. Overnight – Awake Staff: 10:00 pm – 8:00 am. Ideal candidate will have the ability to participate in the program for the entire 7 day time frame. Awake Staff will communicate with the day time/lead staff to discuss the day’s activities and anything that may need to be known to successfully support the overnight shift of the participants. The Awake staff member will be awake and alert during the overnight shift and will make rounds checking on participants through out the evening to ensure no one has left the premises. Qualifications: Education background is highly desired, special education concentration preferred or a recreational background is desired. Or a combination of education and experience. CPR/First Aide certified also desired. $12.00 hr.
  1. Overnight – Nurse (RN): 10:00 pm – 9:00 am. The Nurse will be present on premises to ensure assistance when participants require medical care on site. The overnight nurse does not have to be awake overnight; however, the person must be available on site overnight as needed. Additionally, the nurse will assist with medication (no administering of medication). The nurse will ensure that participants are taking their required medication and proper dosages on time and as needed. $15.00 hr.Qualifications: Must be a Registered Nurse.
  1. Program/Recreation Assistant (Part-time): 2:00 pm or 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm (flexible schedule required). Ideal candidate will be able to accommodate a flexible schedule that will primarily encompass evenings; however, be available for day time activities as needed. The Program/Recreation Assistant will help with the Program and may be paired with youth in the evening for various activities. CPR/First Aide certified also desired. Qualifications: Education background is highly desired, special education concentration preferred or a recreational background is desired. Or a combination of education and experience. CPR/First Aide certified also desired. $10.00 hr.
