Book: “Seven Blind Mice” By: Ed Young

Early Literacy: COLORS & GUESSING. Today’s story is about seven blind mice that take turns trying to figure out what is at their pond. One mouse goes each day of the week starting with Monday, by Saturday they think they know what the “something” could be but when the 7th mouse goes he learns that it is an elephant! Can we guess what something is just by touching it? Is it different than what our friends think?

Small Group Circle Time: Our extension activity will be discussion about what senses we can use if we cannot see. (We can still touch, smell, hear, or taste the item to try and learn what it is.)

ASHLEE HWT: We are still completing 2 letters a week from the HWT curriculum. We will begin with letter “U”. Each child will receive a trace sheet they will complete and identify the letter and a word or item that begins with letter “U”. Once we’ve completed our trace sheet we will trace the letter on our Leap Pad scribble and write. “Big line down, curve at the bottom, big line up.”

Book: “Paddingtons Colors” By:Michael Bond

Early Literacy: Color Mixing. Which colors can we mix together to make another color? Do you know a combination? Well Paddington the bear is doing some spring cleaning and some of the things he is mixing create different colors. Which colors do we see on our flag? Can we mix colors to make them lighter or darker? How can we make lighter colors?

Small Group Circle Time: Our extension activity will be creating a patriotic collage using red, white and blue. The children will choose the paper color and various collage items to paint, color or glue onto their collages; we will display them in our class to enjoy.

ASHLEE HWT:Today we will complete letter “U” by reading “My Little “U” Book” By: Jane Belk Moncure. We will work together as a team and create a list of the different items or words that begin with letter “U”, and then the children will need to identify the letter sound and choose an item from our book or the list we made to draw and tell a short story about.“Big line down, Curve at the bottom, Big line up.”

Book: “Fruit” By:Piggy Toes Press

Early Literacy: FRUIT

Today we will read an interactive story about fruits. Fruit is usually colorful and sweet, fruits are good for our bodies and should be something we try to eat everyday. Some fruits are blue or red, what are they? We will be using two fruits tomorrow to create a patriotic pie just like the collage we did on Tuesday, can you guess what they are?

Small Group Circle Time: Our extension activity will be a shopping and sorting activity. We will use small paper bags to “shop” in our housekeeping area and choose different food items such as fruit, bread, veggies and desserts. Then we will come to the carpet where we will discuss the items and sort them by color on laminated sheets of construction paper.

ASHLEE HWT:We are still completing 2 letters a week from the HWT curriculum. Our second letter this week is “C”. Each child will receive a trace sheet they will complete and identify the letter and a word or item that begins with letter “C”. Once we’ve completed our trace sheet we will trace the letter on our Leap Pad scribble and write. “Start at the top, big curve to the bottom, stop.”
