BATHROOM COOL TOOL

UNIVERSAL EXPECTATION: Be safe, respectful, responsible, and productive during bathroom time.

NAME OF SKILL/SETTING: Students will demonstrate knowledge of the steps of the bathroom procedure by participating in a relay within a small group and then discussing it as a class.

PURPOSE OF THE LESSON/WHY IT IS IMPORTANT
1. The Bathroom procedures and etiquette are important for students to know and practice so bathroom areas can remain clean and students can use the restrooms without issue.
TEACHING EXAMPLES
1. Teacher will divide class into groups of 4-5. Each group will get a relay sheet and a marker. Teacher will ask students to number off within their groups. Person #1 will have the marker first.
2. Teacher gives direction that students will be participating in a relay that will last for 5 minutes. When the teacher says “go”, student #1 will begin by writing down any step that would be part of a proper bathroom procedure. When finished, they will pass sheet and marker to #2, who will do the same. This continues for 5 minutes. If students can’t think of other steps, they can pass to another person. This continues for 5 minutes or until students cannot think of other bathroom procedure steps.
3. After finished, teacher has students look at the matrix on bathroom procedures. Which steps did they include on their relay sheet that also appear on the matrix?
4. The teacher solicits students to read each section of the bathroom procedure.
STUDENT ACTIVITIES/ROLE PLAYS
1. Students in groups will each have a relay sheet and marker. They will number off. Student #1 will begin.
2. Students will take turns during the relay to write down steps they think are necessary to have in the bathroom procedure. They continue to pass paper/marker to next person. This continues for 5 minutes or until all group members are done contributing.
3. Students read matrix on bathroom procedure.
FOLLOW UP/REINFORCEMENT ACTIVITIES
1. Students read procedure on/near bathrooms before class bathroom breaks to reinforce the procedure.
