Regulations Double Degree MSc Innovation Sciences and MSc Sustainable Energy Technology

Requirements

The MSc programs Innovation Sciences (IS) and Sustainable Energy Technology (SET) are two independent, interdisciplinary master programs with an emphasis on a range of sustainable energy technologies (SET), on the one hand, as well as Technology, Sustainability, the Knowledge Economy, and Globalization (IS), on the other hand.

The Double Degree program IS & SET (DD IS & SET) is open for all students who are admitted to both the MSc Progran IS and the MSc Program SET. Studentshave to be aware that it is assumed that they have the intenstion to put some additional efforts into their primary Master’s studies Innovation Sciences and combine it with the other Master’s program SET! In other words, students having the intention to undertake this program should have a (very) good track record in their previous Bachelor studies and belong to the top students of their respective graduation year. The additional efforts of the DD IS & SET program are related to:

-the intention to understand in greater detail concepts, methods and skill requirements provided in both Masters;

-a great interest in in-depth technical knowledge provided by the Masters SET;

-the extra energy which will have to go into the process of planning and scheduling of the structure of the DD IS & SET;

-the heavier study load of at least between 15 and 20 ECTS per quarter;

-the intention to go abroad during the international semester;

-the willingness to learn more about the practical side of SET by undertaking an internship in a company;

-the ambition of closely (and early) communicate with the mentor about expectations with respect to the structure of the Masters and a possible Master’s thesis.

Students wishing to combine an MSc-degree at TU/e with the MSc SET to obtain both degrees may, after approval of the Examinations Committees of both MSc programs, follow a combined program of total at least 150EC and maximum180 EC. The combined study program fulfils the requirements of each MSc program separately and both study programs are approved by the Examinations Committees. In the request for a double degree program the two study programs are detailed.

The following conditions apply for the Masters SET:

Component / Credits (ECTS) / Remarks
SET Core / 30 / The program contains the SET core program. These courses are not included in the study program of the other MSc program.
SET specialization / 15 / The program contains 15 ECTS in courses from the lists of SET specialization courses. At least 5 EC of these courses are not included in the study program of the other MSc program.
Non SET courses / 30 / The program contains at least 30 ECTS of TU/e courses on MSc level that are not on the lists of SET core and specialization courses or overlap courses on these lists considerably. These 30 ECTS are on the lists of core courses and specialized elective components of the other MSc program.
Graduation project / 45 / The graduation project must be assessed separately for both programs. It is required that there is at least a graduation committee for the MSc SET assessing the project according to the SET standards. The two graduation committees are chaired by staff members of different TU/e departments and at least 2 members of each committee are not a member of the other committee.
Internship / Minimum 15 / The combined program contains an internship of at least 15ECTS. The content of this internship can lie within the discipline of the cooperating MSc program.
