Happy Friday!

Winter is here! It is really important that children come to school with a warm coat, hat, mittens/gloves, socks, and warm shoes. In addition, when the snow comes students will need snow/ski pants and snow boots to play on the playground.

We have a guest counselor, Dr. Novick, filling in for Mrs. Mayhew while she is out on leave. Dr Novickis working with small groups of students on Kelso's Choices and Self-Regulationon Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

In the case of inclement weather, please check the local radio and TV stations for school delays and closings.

Happy Friday!

This morning, we had a great "Count ME In" Attendance Assembly. We recognized 132 students for having Exceptional Attendance andwatched a presentation by Mrs. Cyr's and Mrs. Sherburne's 3rd grade classes. In addition, we recognized several students for demonstrating HAWKS behavior at recess and welcomed parents from Mrs. Cyr's and Mrs. Sherburne's classes.

Reminder aboutAbsences: If your child is absent it is really important thatyou (parent/guardian)call the school to let us know why your child is absent. Wehave a new phone system where you can leave a message if you can't reach a real person. Maine state law and MSAD 55 board policy require us to record all absences with a reason/explanation. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you to all of the students who participated in our Friday Spirit Day today --Patriot's Day (Red, Blue, and White).

Next week's Spirit Day is Numbers Day!

Have a great weekend!

Happy Holidays!

I wish all of our families Happy Holidays and a restful vacation from Dec 23 to January 2. School resumes on January 3.

Special thanks to our HAWKS Helpers and SVES Community for our very successful “Fill a HAWKS Stocking” and Christmas Dinner Drive. From December 7 to December 16, we collected enough food, stocking stuffers, and small clothing items to provide Christmas dinners for 21 families and stocking stuffers for 74 children. In addition, we provided Christmas stockings for our 29 PreK students filled with new socks, hats, mittens, underwear, a toy, play dough, a toothbrush, toothpaste, crayons, and a coloring book. We couldn’t have done this without the generous support of our SVES students, families, community members, teachers, and staff.

We celebrated our December “Count ME In” Attendance Assembly this week by recognizing 152students with exceptional attendance. In addition, we recognized 32 students with perfect attendance for the 1st Trimester (these students had zero absences, tardies, or dismissals for the 1st Trimester). We spotlighted two third grade classes (Mrs. Humphrey and Mrs. Dann) and welcomed their parents at the assembly.

Special thanks to Mrs. Condello, Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. Englund, our PTC, our custodians, our support staff, and our classroom teachers for the wonderful Holiday Concerts. Thank you to our parents, families, and community members for supporting our students. Our students did an awesome job singing and entertaining us.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at or 625-8116.

Winter is here! We hadour first snowfall for theyear and it very important that students have the winter gear to play on the playground. Winter gear includes warm coat,snow/ski pants, snow boots, warm mittens/gloves, and a hat. Students need to wear snow/ski pants, snow boots, and coat to play on the playground. Students without these items will have to stay on the blacktop during recess.

Thank you to our staff, students, and community members for helping us collect food for our Thanksgiving Dinner/Food Drive. A special thanks to Mrs. Eastman,Mrs. Dann, and the Hawks Helpersfor spearheading the project.

Due to an unforeseen illnessour school counselor,Mrs. Mayhew, will be out for the next few months. We have advertised for a long-term substitute to fill her position until she returns. We wish Mrs. Mayhew a speedy recovery and look forward to her return.

Hawks Helpers is planning a Stocking StufferDrive and Food Drive for Christmas. We will be collecting toiletry items, socks, underwear, non-perishable food items, and school supplies --look for the Flyer in your child's backpack next week. If you know of a family in need, please let Dr. Sullivan know before December 16.

Last year our Hawks Helpers fundraised money to purchase a "Buddy Bench". Check out our website for a picture of the "Buddy Bench". The "Buddy Bench" is designed for students who are lonely at recess. It is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on the playground.

I hope you and your family have a peaceful and restful Thanksgiving!
