UPDATES

SOCIAL
The term card shows fewer events this term due to the majority of students facing exams. Captains of societies, or those wishing to organise their own events, may email the social secretaries to have them added to the calendar.

SPORT
Planning for the 3 Peaks Challenge has seen the event likely pushed back to June as peak season is fully booked.
James is planning a sports day for the end of term.
There will be a Sports dinner on the 3rd of June. Publicity will send out an email closer to the date. The dinner is not restricted to Linacre sports societies, but is open also to anyone within the college playing sport.
In the cricket, Linacre beat Christ Church in their first round. The next match versus University College will take place Monday 12th.

WELFARE
Laura is looking to expand the welfare role to more than just the welfare tea. As part of this, she hopes to organise Sexual violence workshops as well as a pamphlet on sexual violence, to which CR members may submit anonymously, should they wish.
She hopes also to introduce female sanitary towels and tampons to the welfare boxes.

ENVIRONMENT
The switch-off competition is in its final phase with 4 weeks left. Linacre are currently in 2nd place behind Oriel, though a draw with Oriel is expected by the end based on the present strategy. Willie encourages people to take part in the photo submission competitions and to post on the Student-Switch-Off Facebook page. A win would result in £250 for the CR to put towards an event/party or trophy. The results will be announced at the end of Trinity.

Green society – Sarah is planning a subject mixer together with the allotment society to take place in either week 5 or 6.
Rachel is looking for individuals to volunteer as food waste recycling reps for the on-site buildings, so please contact her if interested.
An allotment party will take place down at the allotment with produce used to make juice drinks.
An open meeting event is planned for later in the term.
A report from the Sustainability Committee, on college performance in carbon reduction targets for 2020, will be circulated.
‘Do the Green Thing’: A poster campaign to change behaviours and encourage green thinking.
On June 5th Linacre will be hosting Linacre Environment Day. This will feature guest speakers, a panel discussion and a theatrical display.
A reminder that all are welcome at the allotment, Sundays at 11am.

Organisation is beginning on a Reuse sale in Michaelmas term.
Temporary storage is also being organised.

LINACRE LINES & FELLOWS ENGAGEMENT
Becky is preparing an International edition of Linacre lines, she asks CR members interested to submit photos, stories, and poems. Recipes will also be published. The theme for the story competition will be distant places: the due date for submissions will be 5th week, 28th May.
The Linacre Lines Live event will take place Sunday of 5th week. There will be a Google Doc sign-up sheet.

For students still having trouble smoking out junior research fellows for subject mixers, Becky will be compiling a match-making database. Email her if interested, and she will do her best to match students and fellows.

CHARITIES
Last terms charity events raised £290, to combine with a donation of £616.13 from Keith Lloyd (to match the donations raised by the CR in Michaelmas term) to go towards TEST for Africa. Thanks to those who participated in the events.
Following the wine and cheese last weekend, there will be two more events on May 21st and May 30th.
There will be a Charities BBQ on June 14th.
Charities will be contacted and representatives invited to attend the events.
All events are self-funded through ticket prices. All details will be on the Google Docs form sign-up sheets.
A new scheme will be starting, in which Linacre members may elect to sign up for monthly charities donations by battels.
A reminder that the Town & Gown run will be taking place May 11th.

MOTION TO ESTABLISH A PIZZA SOCIETY
The purpose of the society is to arrange monthly pizza lunches, teach the basics of pizza making, and compile an online database of pizza recipes. Open to members and guests, with an entry charge c.£3-5per person.
Requesting £250 for cooking equipment: one quarter inch steel plate, one peel, cooking supplies.
The steel plate will be stored originally in Neil Frazer Bell house or 201 Iffley Road, but will be free to use in other houses also. The steel plate is almost indestructible, being more efficient and with a longer life-span (half-life c.50years) than ceramic counterparts.
Events will be priced to break even. Due to kitchen size restrictions, party size will most probably be limited to 15-20 people.

  • 21 in favour
  • 0 against
  • 1 abstain

Motion carried.

CCTV UPDATE
Following the previous poll, Simon Barker has sent an explanation of use for the proposed camera as well as offering a compromise in installing a ‘blind’ camera. The camera for the JCR is intended to cover entrances. The range of the camera will not cover the bar, for which an open camera at the back of the bar has been proposed. Previous incidents which have occurred in the JCR include cases of missing bags, laptops, confrontations, and drink throwing.

The blind camera will have no monitor screen at the porters lodge, will store a maximum of 30-40days and footage will only be accessed in the occasion of a criminal or disciplinary complaint, and with the permission of the senior tutor. In order to maintain transparency, a protocol for access, describing on which occasions the cameras will be checked, will be developed.
Another Excel Poll Q&A will be put up on the CR Facebook page and circulated through publicity. The result will be relayed at the Governing Body meeting. If enough people are still against, the camera will not be installed.

CR WEBSITE
Adam Formica has volunteered as the CR representative. Consultants are coming in to overhaul the CR website, the first meeting was on the 7th and the next will be on the 14th. He asks for student feedback on how to improve the website, what features, forms, etc. are wanting.
There may be a pizza night to discuss ideas.

REMINDER TO SPEND BUDGETS
A reminder from Adam to clubs, societies, and houses to spend the rest of their budgets before the end of Trinity.
GARDEN PARTY/BALL COMMITTEE
A call for committee volunteers. More people are needed in the organisation of the Garden Party. Meetings are biweekly. To get involved send wither Louie or Philly an email.
