MIAMI, FL- This summer, June 9 through August 18, in a quiet Miami neighborhoodwithin thehistoric Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ’sintimate,Spanish-revivalstyle setting, concertgoers will have the unique opportunity to beawed and entertained by some of the music industry’s mosttalented and revered classical and jazz figures. These artists will perform anddelight audiencesat the Community Arts Program (CAP)2016Summer Concert Series!

The Community Arts Program Summer Concert Series has entertained more than 64,000 people since it began in 1985. The Series has grown into a time-honored tradition and,more recently,part of a Community Arts Program that provides music education to childrenin its Conservatory for the Arts. “The Community Arts Program (CAP) Summer Concert Series is a rare opportunity to hear world-renowned artists in the intimate and beautiful Coral GablesCongregational United Church of Christ,” saysShelton G. Berg, University of Miami Dean of the Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music.“The CAP Conservatory for the Arts provides high-quality music education to children, many of whom would otherwise be denied access to the wonder of music and the beauty of the artistic spirit.”

June 9-Doc Severinsen

“Heeeeere’s Johnny!” That lead-in, followed by a big band trumpet blast, was the hallmark of late night television’s iconic “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson, Ed McMahon, and bandleader Doc Severinsen. GRAMMY® Award winner Doc Severinsen still blows hard and hits the high notes, a result of his continued commitment to the refinement of his craft. In a program titled “Trumpet Kings,” Doc is joined by trumpet virtuoso Byron Stripling and the Byron Stripling Quartet. This evening of beloved, memorable tunes and unforgettable enjoyment will open with the CAP Miami Jazz Institute ALL-STAR Jazz Ensemble!

June 23- SYBARITE5

SYBARITE5 is classical music’s most dynamic new music group, comprised of Sami Merdinian and Sarah Whitney, violins; Angela Pickett, viola; Laura Metcalf, cello; and Louis Levitt, bass. July 21-Terri Lyne Carrington

GRAMMY® Award-winning drummer, composer and bandleader Terri Lyne Carrington has been at the top of the music industry for almost twenty-five years, collaborating with luminaries like Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Al Jarreau, and Cassandra Wilson. Money Jungle: Provocative in Blue—a highly praised homage to Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus and Max Roach—won Terri Lyne the 2013 GRAMMY® for Best Jazz Instrumental Album. The CAP 2016 Summer Concert Series presents the Terri Lyne Carrington Quartet—with Aaron Parks, piano; Mark Shim, sax; and Zach Brown, bass—in Money Jungle: Provocative in Blue.

AUGUST 4-PETER & WILL ANDERSON JAZZ TRIO

Peterand Will Anderson are one of the most extraordinary sibling saxophone/clarinet teams performing music today. They’re known for their exciting arrangements of American jazz classics and fresh original music. Their 2012 release forSmalls Records,Correspondence, was listed inVanity Fairmagazine in“Four New Releases to Make You Love Jazz.”Joined by guitarist Alex Wintz, this will be one delicious evening of music from the American Songbook with other delectable classics and originals.

AUGUST 18-SIR ANGEL ROMERO

The CAP 2016 Summer Concert Series closes with the Spanish maestro of the guitar, Sir Angel Romero! One of the most sought-after musicians of his generation, his extensive discography includes highly-acclaimed recordings for Delos, International, RCA Victor Red Seal and RCA Victor Worldwide, Telarc, and Angel/EMI. In 2000, Romero was knighted by the Spanish crown in honor of his astounding musical accomplishments. In 2007, the Recording Academy, producer of the GRAMMY® Awards, presented Sir Angel with the Recording Academy President’s Merit.
