BOARD MEETING

MINUTES: Minutes of Board Meeting held July 18, 2017 were reviewed. Motion made by Gloria Shakespeareto approve minutes as reviewed,motion seconded by Connie Jones. Motion carried.

Review Housing Assistance Report August 2017: Mike Barben handed out the HAP reports for August2017. Board members were able to see the money spent for the months on rental assistance, see the average unit cost, and verify the units leased for the month. The board was also able to ask questions and have a discussion about portability, C of C and VASH. Each board member signed off on the HAP payments and month end totals.

Review current 2017-2018 budget: Mike Barben handed the board a copy of the fiscal year 2017-2018 SGHA budget. The board was able to see how the SGHA is doing in the current fiscal year budget. Mike reported that for the most part we were right on budget. The board has asked Mike to provide and present the most recent budget accounts at each board meeting. By providing the current budget monthly, the board can see how the SGHA is keeping up with the current budget throughout the whole year. The board thought it would be great to ask questions and be on top of what the SGHA is doing financially. Mike agreed to do this.

Report on REAC HUD Inspections for July: Mike Barben reported to the SGHA board that HUD performed the REAC inspection at Dixie Sun Manor on July 27, 2017. Mike reported that the inspection went very well and the HUD inspector was very impressed with Dixie Sun Manor. Mike reported that the inspector did find a few minor things that needed to be addressed. Mike assured the board that the items would be taken care of ASAP. Mike also reported that Dixie Sun Manor passed the inspection with high marks and are still in very good standing.

Report on Opening of Section 8 Waiting List: Mike Barben reported that the Section 8 waiting list will open August 15, 2017 at 8 a.m. Mike reported that the waiting list has been closed since August of 2014 and is expecting a long line of people ready to fill out the application. Mike reported that the housing authority has a pretty good system on how to filter the people in and out of the office in an orderly manner. Mike reported that he is expecting around 600-1000 applicants before the waiting list closes September 26, 2017 at 5 p.m. Mike reported that a public notice will be published in the Spectrum Newspaper on August 13-14 stating that the waiting list is opening. Mike also informed the board that he contacted SGPD and they will be on the premises August 14-15. Mike also reported that he has notified all public agencies (libraries, work force services, dove center, etc.) of the waiting list opening.

SEMAP Reporting Date: Mike Barben reported that (Section Eight Management Assessment Program) reporting is due August 28, 2016. Mike reported to the board that the SGHA is preparing that report and almost finished. Mike expects no issues or problems with the SEMAP report and is right on schedule with all data.

Application for 2018 C of C Grant due August 26, 2017: Mike reported that the Continuum of Care grant for 2018 is due August 26, 2017. Mike reported that Becky Workman is heading this up and expects the grant to be finished by the due dat. Mike also reported on the 5 families that SGHA has helped so far. He reported that all families are working, receiving case management, and paying their rent on time. The board seemed very pleased with the outcome of this program.

Motion made by Greg Whitehead to close the meeting. Jimmie Hughes seconded the motion. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.

Next board meeting will be held September 12, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. at the St. George Housing Authority office.
