JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Practice Manager

Salary: £28,000-32,000 pro rata

Hours of work:21hours a week. Office hours plus some evening or weekend work [time off in lieu system operates]

Annual Leave: 15days a year(plus bank holidayspro rata)

Responsible to: Deputy Director

Responsible for: Family Support Workers, student Social Workers and Volunteers

Main objectives of the post:

  1. Enable families living with HIV with complex need to access practical, emotional and social support that will strengthen and promote their wellbeing.
  2. To provide a quality social work service within PPCs model of Social Work which often includes complex cases.
  3. Provide / oversee group work for service users
  4. Manage and supervise family support workers directly and work closely with them and other staff in service delivery, engaging them in their own and service’s development process.
  5. Ensure services are culturally appropriate and accessible for ‘hard to reach’ communities whilst proactively seeking to keep them up to date and relavent to the aims of the organisation.
  6. Keep informed of developments in the HIV and children and families sectors
  7. Develop and maintain positive links and communication with referral agencies

Main Duties, Responsibilities and Tasks:

  1. Case Work
  • Attend and participate in allocations meetings
  • Carry out assessments and reviews of support in line with PPC policy and procedure
  • Using direct work skills and advocacy that proactively strengthens family relationships and functioning, managing HIV and good sexual health, children’s welfare, promotes parental openness with their children about HIV and reduces stigma.
  • Work with families to develop creative support services
  • Support Family support workers with more complex interventions
  • Make full use of and refer to other PPCs services andexternal agencies
  • Devise and provide group work or workshops as an additional form of support
  • Work closely with statutory health and social care for the benefit and of the child
  • Keep high quality case records
  • Work directy with clinics and parents to ensure children at risk of HIV are tested.
  1. Line management
  • Provide regular supervision, good lines of communication, support and direction in case work and group work, training and development and team work.
  • Allocation of Family Support Worker hours
  • Take part in recruitment and induction of new staff
  • Promote good team work and communication
  • Provide practice supervision to Social Work students from time to time
  • Work closely with volunteers and other staff in the wholistic provision of services.
  1. Practice and legal knowledge
  • To keep abreast of current issues, developments, legislation and guidance within both the HIV & AIDS, sexual health and childcare/family support fields, as well as being aware of other agencies and services available
  • To co-ordinate in-house information and resource as a support mechanism for Families and Staff, with the support workers.
  • Work at all times within the guidelines and principles of legislation .
  • To promote the principles aims and objectives of PPC
  • To be proactive in identifying and managing child protection issues and to inform Deputy Director, or in her/his absence the Director, of any suspected child neglect and/or abuse.
  • To work within the guidelines of the PPC’sStaff Code of Practice.
  • To observe confidentiality at all times.
  • To have knowledege and experience of families with insecure immigration status, including families with No Recourse To Public funds.
  1. Data and information and developments
  • To assist with funder reports and requirements and in the collection and distribution of management information and service statistic
  • To contribute to particular projects and resource development, commensurate with the aims, objectives and principles of PPC, as may be undertaken by PPC from time to time.
  • Undertake evaluation of the impact of service provision and interventions.
  1. Personal Development and Responsibilities
  • Maintain HCPC registration
  • Participate as directed in training, supervision and appraisal
  • Manage and priorities of ownwork load using managerial advice and support when needed.
  • To assist in the office with day to day running of the Family Support Service and administrative tasks
  • To participate in individual and group training. To undertake a written or oral presentation of received external training for the benefit of the rest of the team, when requested.
  • To attend and be an active participant in monthly staff meetings and regular personal supervision
  • Totake on any other duties that fall within the scope of this post.

1.Proven Skills and Abilities

  • Social Work Qualification and HCPC registration
  • Skills and ability to work from a child-centred and relationship based approach.
  • Assessment and case management skills.
  • Ability to work and communicate in a manner which empowers both parents/guardians and children,
  • Ability to work supportively with colleagues
  • Skills and ability to provide effective and motivating line management
  • Ability to use initiative and work in a confident, assertive manner, particularly in relation to safeguarding children.
  • Warmth, reliability and flexibility.
  • Good IT and report writing skills
  • Ability to work and communicate with social workers, health, and other professionals
  • Skills in providing support to familiesfacing complexissues around HIV & AIDS and good sexual health.
  • Ability to travel across South London

2. Understanding and knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of laws and practice in relation to safeguarding children and the rights of children, and preventative family support.
  • Understanding of working in partnership with parents/guardians
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the diverse needs of children and young people.
  • Understanding of parenting skills and positive behaviour management
  • Understanding and awareness of the process and impact on individuals of discrimination, stigma and secrecy associated with HIV.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the specific needs of children and families affected by HIV
  • Knowledge of children and families services and other HIV & AIDS agencies.

3. Experience

  • At least two years experience of working with children and families in need
  • Experience in assessment
  • Experience of multi-cultural, familysocial care or support
  • Experience of working in close partnership with parents/guardians.
  • Experience of complex case work
  • Experience of group work
  • Experience of chairing or participating in meetings which include service users
