Position Title: Behaviour Support Professional

Accountable to: Director of Interventions

Hours:Part-time, 16 - 24 hours per week

Salary:£17,000 - £18,000 pa pro-rata (depending on experience)

Location: Oxford, UK

Start:Flexible from April

The Role

This role is perfect for a teaching assistant, experienced youth worker or a psychology graduate who is wanting experience in a therapeutic setting and work outside of the statutory structure, in a flexible and creative work environment with vulnerable children. We are looking for a person who is willing to work with both primary and secondary aged (4-16) students.

Primarily you will be required to efficiently and confidently support the design and delivery of interventions aimed to facilitate positive behavioural change in the lives of some of the most vulnerable young people in Oxfordshire. A competent undertaking of the role will entail a continual reviewing and evaluating of the effectiveness of the process in order to ensure that the intervention is generating outcomes. Further, to ensure that the support and intervention offered is holistic you will also be required to engage with other professionals and agencies as well as work closely with the young person’s family, school, and community. The end result will be an effective and holistic intensive intervention plan delivered with professionalism, passion, and sensitivity.

In addition to one-to-one support, the role will also require you to sometimes lead group sessions of between 6-10 young people of low to mid vulnerability. Activities will include, for example, the therapeutic use of art and interactive media-based discussions.

You will be working as part of a larger team, but will also frequently be on your own conducting assessments and interventions. It will be a crucial part of the job that you are able to build positive relationships not only with the young people, but also with the school staff. Occasionally, depending on whether you are lead on a case, at the close of interventions you will need to meet with the key members of the school, and the young person’s family in order to make recommendations for the next steps.

About One-Eighty

One-Eighty is a psychology behavioural support charity aimed at re-integrating vulnerable children and young people back into an educational provision suitable for their needs. This is carried out across Oxfordshire and its neighbouring counties by supporting them through periods of educational transition, and targeting specific behavioural issues that are negatively impacting both the young people and their families.

At One-Eighty we want to see children and young people achieve their potential. We work in partnership with schools, Social Services, the Youth Offending Service, professional agencies, and other charitable organisations, to devise and deliver the best possible intervention plans for each individual.

One-Eighty is broadly divided into two areas: one-to-one interventions, where staff members work intensively on a one-to-one basis, and group work, where young people take part in group sessions over a termly period.

We are a relatively small charity which works in small multi-professional clustered teams, consisting of Social Workers, specialists with a background in Psychology or Therapy work, Teachers, Behaviour Support professionals and Mental Health professionals. The intensity of our support can be challenging but the team environment is fun, flexible, void of unnecessary bureaucracy and incredibly rewarding. In 2013, the team saw 76% of children and young people they worked with successfully reintegrate back into education and in 2014 this rose to 95%.

Our greatest asset is our team, and due to extensive growth across the county, we are seeking to recruit an additional talented, professional, and passionate individual to join the team.
