The company was founded in 1927 and is based in Stamford, Connecticut.

Position Summary:

The Senior Video Network Planning Engineer is responsible for planning and engineering subscriber broadband networks for delivery of triple and quad play video services in Frontier’s Network. This position focuses on the design, evaluation, testing, and implementation of service provider routing and switching technologies and equipment for the delivery of IP video services to consumers. The position reports to the Director of Video Engineering.

40% - Plan, engineer, and document end-to-end video delivery networks and related technologies in response to Video system requirements. Author engineering documents such as High-Level Design (HLD), Engineering Guidelines (EGL), Provisioning Guidelines (PGL), and Method of Procedure (MOP)

25% - Develop test plans and test specific vendor equipment to meet requirements. Perform evaluations on new equipment. Create configurations for routers, switches, test equipment, and related systems in a Lab environment for purposes of establishing network-wide implementation procedures and guidelines

25% - Plan and support the deployment of video and content delivery services across the network. Train Operations staff on the monitoring and maintenance of the network.

10% - Respond to outages, handle escalations, and assist Operations in troubleshooting. Handle Tier 3 on-call duties and provide off-hours support for maintenance activities

LOCATIONS: Dallas-TX, Fort Wayne-IN, Sacramento-CA

TRAVEL: Occasional - 1-2 weeks every other month

Five or more years of broadband subscriber network experience (eight or more years of experience desired) performing hands-on network design, configuration, and troubleshooting of broadband subscriber or carrier networks, with at least two years in a broadband subscriber network technology or planning organization (i.e. network architecture, capacity management, deployment planning and FOAs, or evaluating and testing new equipment, technologies, or services for subscriber networks) and at least two years of experience working with video delivery services in triple/quad play networks.

ISP Broadband (Telco/Cable/Satellite) experience is mandatory.

A qualified candidate should have:

  • Strong experience planning, design, and implementation of video delivery on broadband subscriber networks
  • Strong experience authoring network specifications and diagrams (MS Word/Visio or equivalent)
  • Strong experience with Juniper MX, M, or E series routers (MX960, MX480, MX240, MX80, M320, E320, ERX1440)
  • Strong experience with JunOS and JunOSe CLI configuration of Juniper subscriber management features for Broadband Network Gateways (BNG) / Broadband Remote Access Servers (BRAS)
  • Strong experience designing and configuring QoS/CoS for multi-play service offerings
  • Strong experience with service provider routing and switching protocols and technologies (BGP, OSPF, MPLS/VPLS, VRF/VPN, PIM, STP)
  • Experience working with IPTV or video streaming technologies
  • Experience with PON or DSL access technologies
  • Experience with fault analysis using network traces or sniffer captures
  • Experience with methods for stress testing of networks and related equipment
  • Ability to define test plans and supervise testing
  • Ability to speak clearly and present technical material in front of an audience

Any of the following experience is desired/preferred:

  • Experience with any other high-end routers and switches in service provider environments (Alcatel 7x50, Cisco 6500/7600, 9K, ASR/GSR, Nexus, etc.)
  • Experience with QAM-based cable systems
  • Experience with TV middleware systems (Mediaroom, Medios, Rovi, etc.)

BSEE, BSCS, BSET or 8 or more years equivalent experience in a technical/engineering field

Any of the following technical certifications are strongly desired:

  • Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional/Expert (JNCIP/JNCIE-M or SP) or equivalent certification from an alternate vendor in a “Service Provider” track (e.g. CCIE)
