Plumb Memorial Library Board of Directors Meeting Sept. 11, 2012

Present: Barbara Glover, chair;Jean Cayer,Harriet Finn,Shirley Keller, Aleta Miner; new memberJim Geissler was welcomed. Also present: Elspeth Lydon, Library Director and Shawn Fields, Branch Library Director.

Board came to order at 7:35 p.m.

Secretary’s Minutes,Treasurer’s Report and Librarian’s Report provided in advance meeting packet. MOTION::Harriet Finn – minutes and reports be accepted as submitted, secondJean Cayer;all in favor.Committee Reports – none; Monthly Bills-checks signed by Harriet and Shirley; Correspondence/Gifts – Assoc of CT Library Boards announcement of annual conference Oct. 25, 2012 at U. of Hartford.

  3. Bylaws discussed and revisions proposed; draft edited version included in monthly packet for

October; library/board timelinewill be addressed at October meeting

  1. Board Holiday Dinner - Aleta Miner, chair. Birmingham Gala is Dec. 8 per Bill Nimmons. Wellingtons is available on Dec. 7 and 8; Aleta will confirm with them for Friday, Dec. 7, if not available then she will take Sat. Dec. 8. Jean Cayer will assist with arrangements.
  2. Charter Revision Commission – last meeting was attended by Barbara G., Shirley K. and Aleta M. Only significant change proposed to library portion was to modify“board may appoint and remove personnel...subject to approval by Mayor”Commission closed revisions at this session to send revised Charter to Aldermen.

9:10 p.m. - MOTION:OPEN EXECUTIVE SESSION- Aleta Miner, 2nd Jean Cayer, all in favor

9:20 p.m. – MOTION: CLOSE EXECUTIVE SESSION - Aleta Miner, 2nd Jim Geissler, all in favor

  1. Request from director for a photocopier for adult dept. to replace current Ricoh which will be moved to Children’s Dept. to replace Konica which needs over $2000 in repairs and is over 6 years old. Proposals from sales reps discussed. MOTION: the library director may spend up to $5000 to purchase a new photocopier. Jean Cayer, 2nd Jim Geissler, all in favor.
  2. MOTION: Harriet Finn nominated Aleta Miner to replace her as Treasurer, 2nd by Jean Cayer, unanimous approval. Following this Harriet announced her retirement after 31 years on the library board. The group consensus was “You will be missed!”
