Below are the outcomes that each Professional Development Goal aims to support. Each teacher will establish personal objectives that address each of the three goals.

Goal 1. Child Development and School Readiness

A. Social and Emotional Development: Children will acquire the social skills, self-awareness, and personal qualities that are interconnected with learning with others in the classroom, at home or in their community

B. Language Development and Literacy: Children will identify sounds, and discriminate the smaller sounds within words

(phonological awareness), and recognize sounds and words through pictures, symbols, and print

C. Approaches to Learning: children will develop attention skills and basic scientific inquiry skills for everyday

Explorations and for planned experiences on science.

D. Cognition and General Knowledge: Children will use math in classroom activities and everyday experiences to gain number sense, count, compare, make simple addition and subtraction for reasoning and problem solving.

E. Physical Well-Being and Motor Development: Children will identify and demonstrate healthy and safe practices.

Goal 2. Teachers and Teaching

A. Effective Interactions: Teachers are prepared to support the learning and development needs of all children. Data from the most recent CLASS review can be used in developing an objective for this goal.

B. Use of Data to Guide Instruction: Teachers use child observation and assessment data to plan for individualized instruction.

C. Professional Development: Teachers are life-long learners.

Goal 3. Classroom Environment

A. The classroom physical, emotional, and instructional environment supports children’s learning and development. Data from the most recent ECERS or CLASS review can be used in developing an objective for this goal.

Teachers in Head Start collaboration classrooms must have one goal - based on CLASS review.
