Requirements: create a 20 minute physics presentation that creatively and expertly conveys the nuances of a particular physics phenomenon or concept. Also, answer all questions posed in the five minute question period at the end. Typically 3 to 5 questions will be asked either by the audience or by the moderator. Presentations should have hands-on or demonstration component.

Content / Loosely tied topics that lack both depth and relevance to one another. Uses less than 10 minutes. / General physics ideas covered. Topic presentation lacks depth. Uses 10 – 15 minutes. / Well developed topic that wanders between several areas in physics without depth. Use 15 – 18 minutes. / Highly developed topic that is specific to one area in physics. Use entire 20 minutes.
Interest / Topic is of little relevance or interest. Audience typically not listening and fidgety. / Topic shows limited interest. Only a small portion of the audience finds the presentation engaging. Usually only one person asking questions. / Interesting topic that the majority of the audience find interesting. Audience left with the feeling of learning something new that matters. / Highly interesting topic. Generally leads to more curiosity and several questions from the audience. Audience left with sense of amazement or new view of the world.
Expertise / Confused about topic. Multiple mistakes in presentation. Audience unable to follow the presentation. / Moderate depth of understanding on subject. No more than two small mistakes in presentation. / Shows great depth of knowledge. Makes majority of the content accessible to entire audience. / More knowledgeable than entire audience. No mistakes in presentation. Great detail explained so that all may understand.
Answers / Cannot answer the majority of questions. Answers are confusing or wrong. / Can answer most questions. Look up and respond to unanswered questions the next session. / Can answer all questions. Answers are reasonably detailed. / Can answer all questions quickly, accurately and with great detail.
Demonstration/Hands-on portion / No demonstration or hands-on portion. / Weak demonstration or visual accompaniment. / Good demonstration or hands-on component. / Outstanding Hands-on component or demonstration with wow factor. Ooohs and aaaahhs are audible.
