Categories

The Interview

The interview will take place prior to the pageant earlier in the day. The attire will be business suit.

Presentation—Shades of Blue Sportswear

Each contestant will be presented to the judges and audience with an introduction speech about themselves and career goals. Shades of Blue will be the theme of the category. The attire will be non-active sportswear. 60% of the attire must be blue.

Talent Competition

Contestants will perform a talent of their choice with a minimum of 5 minutes but not to exceed 7 minutes. Please provide a description of talent and any props needed.

Swimwear Competition

Contestants will model a one-piece bathing suit with accessories of your choice. The color will be the choice of the contestant. All bathing suits should be in a tasteful manner.

Evening Gown Competition

Contestants are required to wear a FORMAL evening gown in this category.

Question and Response

Contestants will be asked impromptu questions.

Qualifications and Guidelines

·  All applications and photos are due before or on February 28, 2009

·  The Application Entry Fee is $50.00 (non-refundable). Make checks payable to Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. The Entry Fee is due with the application due date.

·  No fire, water, animal acts permitted.

·  Contestants should check in by 5:00 P.M. on date T.B.A. *Contestants arriving after (designated time) will have 5 points deducted from final score.

·  Rehearsals are MANDATORY and all contestants are required to attend.

·  In the event of a tie, a TIEBREAKER QUESTION will be asked.

·  Please be courteous and professional to all fellow contestants.

·  SELL A MINIMUM OF $600.00 OF ADVERTISEMENTS FOR PROGRAM SOUVENEIR JOURNAL. Advertisement prices: Full Page $100.00; ½ page 75.00; ¼ $50.00; Business Card $25.00; Patron $15.00

·  25 POINTS WILL BE DEDUCATED FROM FINAL SCORE IF MINIMUM ADVERTISEMENTS NOT SOLD. Proceeds to benefit National/Regional Scholarship Program.

·  Contestants must be unwed without child(ren) at the time of the pageant. If chosen, she must remain unwed and without child(ren) during her reign.

·  Contestants must not be older than 25 years of age.

Judging System

The Miss Southwestern Regional Phi Beta Sigma Pageant 2008 judging system is designed to promote diversity, individuality, and overall achievement among all contestants. Judges score the individual contestants immediately following each phase of the competition. Contestants are scored totally on a 1-100 point scale in whole numbers, within each category (more than one contestant may receive the same score). There is one panel of judges for the entire competition. All judges have been educated about the Miss Southwestern Regional, Phi Beta Sigma pageant 2008 judging system and represent a variety of professional sectors within their communities. Contestants may receive an additional 1-5 point’s (maximum 5) for the sale of advertisements in excess of the $600 minimum advertisements sales.

25 points will be deducted from the final score if $600 advertisements are not sold.
