JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, evaluates and controls pest’s problems inbuildings and surrounding grounds. Provides technical assistance andadvice regarding pest control.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  1. Responds to complaints and inquiries regarding indoor and outdoorpest problems. Resolves complaints, identifying the causes of theproblem and working with appropriate personnel to ensure apractical solution.
  1. Determines infested areas and the degree of infestation by visualsurvey.
  1. Operates a variety of equipment such as: microscopes, sprayers andhand and power tools. May be required to operate hydraulic oraerial lift trucks.
  1. Calculates the dilutions of pesticides and mixes. Ensures properstorage of chemicals according to rules and regulations.
  1. Controls pests using biological, chemical, and mechanical methods.
  1. Performs minor maintenance to prohibit pests from enteringbuildings, e.g. caulking; coordinates with other departments toassist with pest control.
  1. Orders supplies, materials, and equipment for the department;initiates purchasing documentation.
  1. Evaluates treatment results and prepares a variety of reports. Prepares all documentation to meet applicable requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE: Five years performing a pest control program for aninterior or exterior environment.

OTHER: Certification as a Pest Control Applicator

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of pest taxonomy and pest biology; of pesticideselection and use; of methods and techniques of pest management.General knowledge of applicable safety rules and regulations relatedto pest control. Skill in calculating percentages to correctly dilutepesticides; in using appropriate pest control equipment; incommunicating orally and in writing. Ability to wear and work inpersonal protective equipment; to work in, on, around, over and underfixed equipment and machinery; to manipulate heavy equipment, toolsand supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; to concurrentlymanipulate multiple controls on equipment and machinery; to work fromladders, scaffolding, and heights up to 35 feet; to work in hazardousor irritating environments; confined spaces, and adverse weather andtemperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protectiveequipment and respirators.

OTHER:

Except for qualifications established by law, additionalrelated experience and formal education in which one has gained theknowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of thework of the job class may be substituted for the education orexperience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 collegecredits being equivalent to one year of experience.
