A/ET 121B Advanced Building Information Modeling with Autodesk Revit
2 Units, 1 hour lecture, 3 hours lab (GR)
Prerequisite: A/ET 121A
Advanced concepts in Building Information modeling (BIM) using Autodesk Revit: Development of plans, details, sections, elevations and schedules from Revit generated Building Information Model.
0201.00 / S11 / The construction industry is undergoing a dramatic change in process that encourages a high level of collaboration between design team members (architects, landscape architects, engineers, and interior designers) and builders. Technology continues to play an important role in this collaboration through the introduction of web based project management tools and through new design and documentation tools like Building Information Modeling (BIM). BIM is a fundamentally different approach to project design and documentation when compared to traditional drafting (either hand or CAD). The principle difference between BIM and 2D CAD is that the latter describes a building by independent 2D views such as plans, sections and elevations. Editing one of these views requires that all other views must be checked and updated, an error-prone process that is one of the major causes of poor documentation. In addition, data in these 2D drawings are graphical entities only, such as lines, arcs and circles, in contrast to the intelligent contextual semantic of BIM models, where objects are defined in terms of building elements and systems such as spaces, walls, beams and columns. This course will focus on advanced BIM applications, utilizing Autodesk Revit Architecture.
Will be a requirement for Architectural and Engineering degrees/certificates.
