Practice News

As there are a few changes going on at the practice we felt that it was better to outline them all for you so that you are aware of what is happening at your practice.

Clinical Staff Changes:

·  Dr Kalhan, our Salaried GP, is leaving us on 10th May to work in another local Practice with more teaching opportunities. We are all very sad that she is leaving the Practice having been here since her final training year, but wish her well in her future career.

·  Dr Booshan, our GP partner, is leaving in September. He is seeking further accreditation in Dermatology and taking a break from full time General Practice. We are going to miss him greatly, but wish him well in his future.

·  We are welcoming Dr Manish Rana (male) as a Salaried GP from September this year. He has been working on a Monday for us over the last year as a Locum GP, you may have seen him, but is joining the team permanently.

·  We are welcoming Sue Corden as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (prescriber) as a permanent staff member from May this year, she is able to deal with a lot of minor ailments, and chronic disease problems and can prescribe for you if needed. Sue has been working here as a locum over the last 2 years, so you may have seen her.

·  We are welcoming Dr Mona Rashid (female) as a permanent locum with us for 3-4 days per week from May.

·  We are welcoming Dr Rashid Manzoor (male) as a permanent locum with us for 3 days per week from May.

·  We have welcomed Lisa Davies (Advanced Nurse Practitioner) as a permanent Locum to the practice for the foreseeable future. She is not only running minor ailment clinics but also helping us with home visits to our housebound patients.

·  We have now employed Jo Patel our Clinical Pharmacist 3 days a week in Practice. She has appointments and phone call slots available for you with regards to any medication queries that you may have and is helping the GP’s with all prescribing areas.

·  We have a very strong Nursing team and have welcomed Lucy Dews as a Health Care Assistant. Our Nursing team are able to help to manage all Chronic Diseases as well as general nursing duties, which means that the variety of clinics we rung means that most of your healthcare needs are met in house.

Appointment system Changes

GP appointments are more in demand than ever. We aim to improve our style of communication so we as a practice can learn to reassure you as patients, and guide you confidently and clearly to where you can have the best possible treatment. This will enable you, as the patient, to see the most appropriate professional person for your needs and free up valuable GP time. We will listen and endeavour to understand your presenting medical issue, so that we can guide you to an outcome to your problem. We are training our staff to be aware by listening to presenting issues and recognising RED FLAG symptoms that require urgent attention. Our reception team are being supported by the GP’s to find out what your patient need is, they will then be able to advise and guide you to the most appropriate source of action/advice/help with your problem or query. With this in mind please be aware that you are going to be asked what your need is when you ring in or attend at the desk, this is important information that will help our team to get you the help you need from the most appropriate person, and is being supported fully by the GP’s.

This will provide real choice for our patients, to be directed quickly and effectively to the right service appropriate for their need. This will improve our appointment availability, by ensuring that those patients who really need to see a GP have the access they need. We have Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, a Pharmacist, Practice Nurses, locum GP’s and Registrars that will be available as well as the permanent GP’s. There are a lot of new local services available that we may also explain to you as a more appropriate option. There will also still be an opportunity to speak to a GP regarding results, medication updates or queries, or general queries that would not normally result in an appointment. This will continue to offer you choice and convenience and free up the GP’s or improved access. We have an Advanced Nurse Practitioner working at the practice who will at times help us with home visiting patients, there is also a local team of Nurses which help us with home visits as appropriate. GP’s are also still home visiting.

The whole team will continue to develop and move forward supported by our GP’s, but above all our main aim is to treat all of our patients with dignity, respect and compassion.

Changes the Practice Partnership

Due to the changes to the staffing in the Practice we have decided to work a lot more closely with the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) to help to support us as a practice. This working relationship is called Vertical Integration (VI).

Vertical integration offers a unique opportunity to redesign services from initial patient contact, on-going health management through to end of life care.

With two organisations effectively working as one, any issues we are facing with regards to responsibility, funding, differing objectives, workforce and range of services will be removed and clinicians will be in a position to design effective, high quality clinical pathways which will improve appropriate access and positively impact on patient outcomes.

This is being driven by the GPs, our Practice team and senior clinicians at RWT who are working in the best interest of their patients and provide value for money for the tax payer. RWT and GP practices are all working together, to develop our plans for closer working together between hospital, community and GP services.

Thank you for your time in reading this, we appreciate there is quite a lot to take in. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to speak to one of the Practice team. We also would appreciate you taking the time to complete our upcoming questionnaire that will be available at the practice so that you can help us to develop further.

Yours sincerely,

On behalf of the Practice Partners

Helen Ryan
