  1. New team applications/vote

Current members voted unanimously to accept South Side into the league and 4 to 1 in favour of Charlottetown entering the league. A 2/3’s majority was obtained, so both teams are accepted into the league. Both Clifford and Jared stressed the importance of cooperation among existing and new teams in finalizing their rosters so that all teams are able to have full competitive rosters for the upcoming season.

  1. Constitution changes (Junior C)

Rob Newson handed out documentation with regards to player registration and roster moves now that the league is under Junior C. Teams will now have access to 40 cards and will have to submit a list of not more than 25 protected players by December 1st.

With 4 overage players (per team) allowed in the league under Junior C rules, the league decided to restrict overage players to those who have not played at a level higher than Junior C (Junior A, B, or Major Junior) previously. There may also be a Hockey Canada rule to restrict it to players who were carded somewhere the previous year, but Rob and Clifford were going to look into it.

Jared mentioned that he will e-mail the new constitution out to the teams with the necessary changes for teams to review and comment on at the next meeting, where it will be ratified and be passed on to Hockey PEI as the official constitution for the 2009-10 season.

  1. Title sponsorship offer (Razzy’s)

Jared mentioned that Glenn Gaudet of Razzy’s offered $500 cash and approximately $600 in player of the week awards to the league for title sponsorship. The league voted unanimously in favour of accepting the offer, but since the amount of cash ($500) that the league has available to it is much lower than what was requested $1,500, that Glenn monitor his sales to Junior C players in the upcoming winter to justify the low contribution. The league believes that the contribution should be increased in subsequent years.

  1. Financial report
  2. Team fees

Team fees will be $200 per team, with $75 going to the statistician and the remainder to the league’s operating budget. Fees are due at the next meeting (Oct. 13th). Any unpaid bond balances are also due at that meeting.

  1. Statement of operations

Jared showed the budget for the year and mentioned that there would be approximately $1,200 available from last year as well as the league fees and sponsorship for this season. He suggested that the league consider an All-Star game or awards, but members felt it would be best used to fund the Atlantics. Jared stated that any funds left over at the end of the year will go to the team representing the province at the Atlantics. The contribution will likely be higher this year than the usual $500, but may not necessarily be the case in subsequent years.

  1. Linesmen

Jared mentioned that Rob Newson suggested that since the cost to use PEIHA linesmen was so similar to the cost to utilize linesmen from a team’s own association that the league consider using PEIHA linesmen for all games. It was decided though that since some teams have different agreements with their associations on paying for referees/linesmen that each team decide on their own. Jared mentioned that Darrell Sentner, the referee assignor should be notified if a team would like to use PEIHA linesmen.

  1. Ice times / schedule

Teams tentatively submitted their ice times (below) and those that have Saturday nights as their home dates have been asked to submit at least three alternate dates before the schedule is drafted to help get all games scheduled before the season starts. Those that do not have enough ice times will have 7 days after the schedule is drafted to schedule the unscheduled games. Jared stressed that it is important to have all games scheduled, even if you schedule them for as late as January or February. That way, you are not left scrambling to get games in at the end of the year and if a better date comes available you can always change it later on.

  1. New championship policy

Rob Newson handed out the new policy with regards to regional championships that states that the winning team must represent the province or face a fine/suspension.

  1. Suspension carryovers

Jared handed out the carryovers from last year to the teams that have some. He also mentioned that Rob will send around a list of graduating midgets that must serve their suspensions before playing with the team they sign with this year. Jared mentioned that suspended players cannot participate in any exhibition games and their suspensions must be served in regular season games. So if you have a 2-game suspension, you miss all exhibition games and the first 2 games of the regular season.

  1. Reminders for new teams/management

Jared reminded new teams that games are 3x 20-minute periods with a 10-minute warm-up and that the home team must supply the pucks. Gate admission is $5 for adults $3 for students/

  1. Other items??

Mike Butler wanted teams with sponsors to have their title sponsor name mentioned instead of their community in all materials. For example: the North River Flames should be the Island Excavators Flames. Jared said he would change that on the website and elsewhere for 2009-10.

Jared mentioned that a Player of the Week Nomination form will be posted on the website for anybody to nominate players each week for offensive and defensive awards. He encouraged all team management to nominate players as often as they can to ensure there are enough good candidates for Jared to pick winners from each week.

  1. Next meeting (tentatively: Tue., Oct. 13th)

Teams must bring any exceptions to their schedule as well as alternate dates that they have so the schedule can be drafted during and immediately after the next meeting. Teams should also look over Jared’s draft of the constitution and be mention any necessary corrections before the next meeting.
