PARIS MEN’S FASHION WEEK JUNE 2016

About the shows

Capsule, Man, MAN and Tranoï Homme& Preview form part of Paris Men’s Fashion Week and took place between 25-27 June 2016.

Capsulewasheld at Maison de la Mutualité on two floors. There were 121 exhibitors including 19 British brands.

MAN was held at rue Yves Toudic with 106 exhibitors including 12 British brands.

Tranoï Homme& Preview was held in two sites, Cité de la Mode et du Design and Palais de la Bourse with a free shuttle bus (approximately 25 minute journey) available between the two venues. Approximately 300 international brands presented SS17 collections and pre-collections. There were 16 British brands who exhibited at this show.

15 British brands who exhibited at the various shows received grants from UK Trade & Investment. A full list of the British exhibitors can be seen here

There were mixed reviews about the footfall at each of the shows although Japanese buyers were back in numbers following a quiet season in January as many stayed away due to the terrorist attacks in Paris.

The Showrooms continue to gain in popularity with each season with brands and buyers. They offer a selection and level of service which the larger shows cannot. Established showrooms included Four Marketing, Concrete Studio, D/ARK, London SHOWrooms Men, Nana Suzuki, Polly King, Rainbowwave, The Showroom Next Door and Tomorrow Ltd. Brands such as Ally Capellino and Private White VC (previously exhibitors at MANWOMAN shows), Passarella Death Squad (previous Capsule exhibitor) chose to exhibit at Four Marketing and Polly King showrooms, preferring the more relaxed approach to meeting quality buyers. L’Estrange London continued a second a season at Rainbowwave.

As part of our #BRITSAROUNDTHE WORLD campaign, UKFT promoted all the British exhibitors under the #BRITSINPARIS banner. The list of UK exhibitors can be found here

In addition, all UK exhibitors (whether grant supported or not) were invited to send images of their collections for a video loop available on YouTube, and a social media campaign also took place. More images from the shows can be viewed from our facebook page .

The result of the EU referendum understandably brought an air of uncertainty throughout the shows in Paris. It was the main topic of discussion when speaking to exhibitors.

The overall feeling was that footfall is challenging and business tough. Whilst some brands met with new buyers and most saw their existing customers, there were few new buyers at the shows It was felt that the second day (Sunday) was particularly quiet but that the Showrooms seemed particularly busy with many Japanese buyers sighted.

Here’s what the exhibitors say about the shows:-

“We had a really good time - first Capsule show in that venue and it seemed to work. Lots of good buyers through the doors and great conversations. Not so much press but Capsule has never been like that as such.” Instrmnt @ Capsule

“We had a really good show in Paris, it was really well organised and we felt it was busy for the duration. We met a wide range of buyers from all over Europe picking up new accounts in Denmark, Belgium as well as some new key stockists in Paris, a great success.” Kestin Hare @ Capsule

“Lathbridge showed at Tranoi Men/Women’s Pre for the first time this season. We found the quality of the clients visiting the show to be of a high standard despite the fact that numbers were relatively low on Saturday and Monday afternoon. We did however make several key strategic connections with international department store buyers which was due to our direct outreach made prior to the show.” Lathbridge by Patrick Cox @ Tranöi Homme & Preview

“Tranoi has a good reputation, many important buyers have visited and we met H. Lorenzo andL'Éclaireur. The show is well organised. However, it has become really expensive. The duration of the show is too short, 4 days would be better because there are lots of things happening in Paris later in the week. I believe a lot of buyers had to miss it, because they had other showrooms to attend.” Consistence London

“I would say overall the amount of accounts that came through the show was mostly positive. From Asia, US & Europe, there were lots of key accounts from Colette, Mr.Porter, End Clothing, Galleries Lafayette: Beijing, Content Store. I think the layout of the show can be improved as the flow and curation of brands has gone down from last season.”OneEleven Bound Studios, Capsule

The dates for the next edition of the 3 shows will be in January 2017, dates not yet published. To apply to exhibit, go to and email the Organisers as instructed. Grants should again be available for eligible UK companies, and exhibitors should apply for a grant at the same time as applying for space at the show. Demand will far exceed supply, so any company wishing to apply for a grant should respond as soon as they receive the grant application forms, which will be available in September 2016.
