Formative assessments take place on a regular basis throughout the year; see details in following sections.

English, Maths and Science exams – Week beginning 15th May 2017.

Assessment Programme Structure and Dates

In addition to the exams provisionally arranged for May 2017, assessment in most subjects will be ongoing and will follow this programme;

English / Assessments in reading and writing completed in class every half term in addition to exam.

Science / End of topic tests roughly at the end of each half term.
Art / Six projects to be completed during the year, at the rate of one project every half term. Each project will be awarded a Level.
Design Technology / Groups rotate every 8 weeks.
Module 1 – Resistant Materials – Metalwork.
Module 2 – Food and Nutrition. Baked products and Nutrition.
Module 3 – Resistant Materials – acrylic clock.
Module 4 – Systems to control. Moisture sensor.
Geography / There will be two assessments per unit (apart from unit 3 which aims to develop image analysis). One will be a skills based assessment, and one will assess key themes. The assessments will take a variety of forms from extended writing to presentations, decision making and role play.

History / Continuous assessment completed in class. There will be a total of 6 assessments throughout the year.
Computing / Students will generally study a new topic each half-term. The National Curriculum has changed from ICT to Computing and a greater emphasis will be placed on coding and more technical aspects of using computers.
Assessments will take place at the end of each unit of study. Each unit will be awarded a level.
Music / At the end of every module (every 7 weeks).
Religious Education / Four formal assessments throughout the year including a Citizenship Assessment.

Additional Useful Information

English / All students have a weekly spelling list and are expected to complete independent reading at home. Parents should sign planners to confirm this has been completed.

Computing / Office 2013 Professional Pro is available free of charge to all students studying at Elton High School. Further information will be distributed shortly.
Music / The following instrumental lessons are available: voice, keyboard and piano, drums, electric and acoustic guitar, bass guitar, woodwind and brass.
Any pupils interested in learning to play and instrument must see Mrs Stopford for an information sheet. Lesson prices vary.
Pupils who have instrumental lessons should also attend one extra-curricular activity a week.
Physical Education / Active Participation Policy
Kit is needed for ALL lessons (apart from acute injuries to the back or if a limb is in a cast).A note must be provided if participation is going to be limited in anyway.
We believe ALL children can get involved and learn whether it be as a performer, an official or coach.
Sporty Feet Campaign
Please help us protect your children’s feet and ankles by ensuring they wear suitable footwear for sport. Guidance is provided from The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists – see school website .
Keep Fresh and Keep Airways Open
Please help keep our asthmatic children safe by providing your child with a roll on antiperspirant. Aerosols are not allowed in schools as they can trigger an asthma attack.
