Resource. Webster’s defines “resource” as, “a source of supply or support:

an available means; a source of information or expertise.”

When it comes to resources surrounding aging and disability, the Area Agency

on Aging District 7 is proud of the role and responsibility we have in serving

as a “source of information” and “expert” in this field through our Aging and

Disability Resource Center. It’s a big partof our everyday functions –

providing resource options, alternatives, andsolutions for the aging and disabled. Each individual who calls our Agency seeking help and assistance is provided with information surrounding what resources are available and best suited for their particular situation. Our specially-trained staff provides each caller with personalized assistance, considering all options and resources that are available in their community.

Although our Agency covers ten counties in southern Ohio including Adams, Brown, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton, resource options and information is available for anywhere in the country through the services of Eldercare Locator, a public service of the United States Administration on Aging, which is administered in partnership with the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging.

Eldercare Locator, much like our very own Aging and Disability Resource Center, was designed to help older adults and their families and caregivers find their way through the maze of services for seniors by identifying trustworthy local support resources. The goal is to provide information and resources that will help older adults live independently and safely in their own homes and communities for as long as possible.

Eldercare Locator began telephone operation in 1991, with the website being launched in 2001. The Eldercare Locator links those who need assistance with state and local area agencies on aging and community-based organizations that serve older adults and their caregivers. Eldercare Locator helps to point individuals in the right direction with needed services such as meals, home care, transportation, or caregiver needs. Eldercare Locator can be found online at or by calling toll-free at 1-800-677-1116.

Locally, individuals, or those speaking on behalf of someone, can simply call our Agency toll-free at 1-800-582-7277 to speak with our Resource Center for assistance in finding what options and services are available for older adults and those with disabilities. If you have a family member who lives outside our 10-county district, you can still call us for help and assistance with finding the best available resources in your loved ones’ hometown. Utilizing the help of the Eldercare Locator, we are able to find what is available and can assist you with finding resources that can help your loved one stay safe and independent in their very own home.
