A Recipe for Your Dog

BONES FOR SPECIAL DAYS

1 cup rye flour

1 tablespoon rapeseed oil

1 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 envelope dry yeast

1 cup wheat bran

2 tablespoons seaweed powder

1 cup fine porridge oats

flour for dusting

1 cup milk

liver pate' and farmer's cheese for the filling

Put all the ingredients except for the liver pate', farmer's cheese, and flour

for dusting the work surface into a food processor. Knead to a firm dough. If necessary, add a little water. Place the dough into a bowl, put the bowl in a warm place and allow the dough to rise to double its volume.

Knead the dough thoroughly again and divide into four portions. On a floured

work surface, shape each portion of dough into a roll and form the ends into bone shapes. The bones should be about equal in size and shape. Cover a

baking sheet with baking parchment. Place the bones on the sheet, leaving

a little space between them. Cover with a dish cloth and allow to rise for

another hour.

Preheat the oven to 430 degrees F.

Bake the bones in the hot oven for 20 minutes. Reduce the temperature to

320 degrees F. and bake for a further 45 minutes. Then remove from the oven and allow to cool a little.

Halve the bones, while still hot, lengthways. Scoop out using a spoon. Place them hollowed-out side downwards and weight with a board so that they do not lose their shape when cooling.

To feed, fill one half with liver pate' and one with farmer's cheese.

Press firmly together.

Add wet mixture to dry, and mix well.

Turn out dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll out to 1/4"- inch thick and cut out shapes.

Place on a greased baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until lightly brown.

Cool on a rack then store in an airtight container.

Something to

Howl About!

Honorbright Dunn's Marsh Song And Dance,"Maks" at six months of age, earned his working certificate at our Winnebago test on 10-18-14. Owned by Pat Kroll and Deb Hamele and handled by Earl Thomas.

Saddlebrooke Sweetwater My Michelle CD"Shelley" was WB, BOW and Best of Breed at Stone City Kennel Club on October 5. Proudly owned by Wendy Schanck& Connie Jacko

I was the sole representative of the Winnebago "Tribe" at the LRC National this year held in Gettysburg in October, 2014.I really enjoyed checking out Gettysburg when not showing.

I took 4 dogs and competed in agility, rally, obedience and breed with all of them.

All four q'd in rally excellent --

Dunn's Marsh Chocolate Martini (Marti) got RE leg 2 with a second place and her mom Honorbright Summer Blonde Ale (Summer) got RE leg 1 with a third place.

Dunn's Marsh All That Jazz and Dunn's Marsh River Dance got RAE legs with very nice scores. Jazz q'd in Veterans obedience as well.

River went in her first ever conformation class (they offered an altered class) andWON her class which also earned her an Up To The Challenge medal. Marti, Summer and Jazz all qualified for Dog For All Reason Awards.

Then at the Sheboygan Dog Training Club Barn Hunt October 25th and 26th Marti passed her Rat Instinct Test (RATI) both days plus got three qualifying scores in Novice earning her RATN (Barn Hunt Novice Title) with a High In Trial getting a"BAR"on 10/26 (which means she was the fastest dog in the entire Novice class of 45 including beating the terriers at their own game). River had a Q in Open and a 4th place as well.

A Message from Sue Sommer re: Our June

Specialty:

I hope everyone is enjoying the Fall, and finding whatever you're hunting for. I also hope I can count on the same "team" as last year. I'll be reaching out individually to try to help in whatever way I can.

I'm also hoping we have another blockbuster raffle. Is it too simple to just say, Same As Last Year? Obviously everyone was a savvy shopper (or regifter). If I am forgetting or missing something please let me know: or my cell: 262-496-4433.

Thank you!

Univ of WI – Madison is doing an ACL Clinical Study

We need Labradors! Purebred Labrador retrievers are needed for a clinical trial at the University of Wisconsin School ofVeterinary Medicine. The dog's pedigreeinformation must be available to qualify for the study.
A link to the study at UW:

Some older dogs will also qualify for a laryngeal paralysis study. They will take blood for both studies at no cost to the owner

Need some good dog-related reading?

Our WLRC Library is such a wonderful asset. Members may contact Sue Seehawer by phone at 815-633-4366 or email and she would be happy to bring the books or other media to the following meeting.

REMEMBER:The December meeting has been cancelled. Come to the Winterfest in January!
