Orientation/Integration of New Cardiology Faculty

Integrating rotating Cardiology Faculty into MTRH’s Cardiology Division and the AMPATH Community in an efficient and organized manner is important for minimizing burden on local staff while also ensuring a positive experience for both North American and Kenyan partners and patients. Therefore, we will institute the following guidelines when Visiting CV Faculty arrive:

Prior to Arrival:

  • In addition to IU contacts, Cynthia Binanay will send travel itinerary and brief biosketch to the “Local” MTRH/AMPATH CV Orientation Team so that everyone will be aware of the dates of rotation coverage.
  • Visiting Faculty will be informed regarding what other Duke Faculty/Staff are in Eldoret.

The local “CV Orientation Team” will be comprised of the following individuals:

  • IU Medicine Team Leader- (Jonathan Dick/JJ-072 467 9898)
  • Cardiology Division Program Administrator (Belinda Korir- 070 642 3216)
  • US Cardiologist, if one is on site (Jerry Bloomfield -072 407 9689 is on location 6 months per year). However, there may not always be overlap of North American CV Faculty on location at the time new faculty arrive. If that is the case, Cynthia and the last US Faculty Member on the ground will have a conference call with the incoming Faculty Member prior to departure for Eldoret.
  • MTRH CCU Head Nurse- (Peris Martim-072 485 2425)
  • Kenyan Cardiologist/Fellow on call the week of arrival
  • Constantine Akwanalo (072 286 2968)
  • Felix Barasa (072 317 4268)
  • Wilson Sugut (072 255 9503)

Upon arrival:

  • Dunia/US Cardiologist/IU Medicine Team Leader (designate) on site will meet Faculty Member and orient him/her to the IU Compound.
  • US Cardiologist/Belinda will give Visiting CV Faculty the local Duke Phone and computer modem.
  • The US Cardiologist/IU Medicine Team Leader (designate) will accompany/give directions to getVisiting CV Faculty into the office on the first day of work. Call Belinda Korir (CV Program Administrator) to arrange place to meet (070 642 3216).
