For more than 40 years, St Patrick’s has worked to provide immediate and holistic care for the homeless, those at risk of being homeless and the disadvantaged in Fremantle and the wider south west metropolitan area of Perth. Services include emergency relief, housing (crisis and transitional accommodation), meals, a day centre, welfare and essential health provision. St Patrick’s also delivers specialist programs including education and training, art and music, recreation, youth at risk, rough sleepers and proudly partners with other agencies across the community to achieve these goals.

POSITION PROFILE.

This position is responsible for the day-to-day bookkeeping functions of St Patrick’s including record-keeping and reporting, paying and issuing invoices, petty cash, PAYG and BAS returns, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Financial Record Keeping

  • Manage debtor and creditor invoicing, receipts and payments and record in accounting software.
  • Manage and reconcile petty cash
  • Perform reconciliations on a regular basis and manage all banking duties required by the organisation
  • Prepare BAS and PAYG returns
  • Ensure all financial record-keeping is accurate and timely
  • Produce financial reports as required for the CEO, Board and management team
  • Monitor expenditure against budget and ensure that variances are reported in a timely manner

Administration

  • Assist with administration tasks as requested

  • Undertake appropriate training and maintain required qualifications, licenses, certificates, checks and clearances.
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably requested

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POSITION

  • Requires a high level of knowledge and skills
  • Sets priorities and monitors work flow in all areas of book-keeping
  • Undertakes duties that require knowledge of procedures, guidelines and statutory requirements relevant to the organisation
  • Plan, coordinate and monitor all financial record-keeping and the day-to-day financial administration of the organisation

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Ability to work effectively as a team member and ability to work independently when required.
  2. Demonstrated ability to produce accurate and timely financial records and reports.
  3. Ability to direct and plan own work, including setting priorities and meeting strict deadlines.
  4. High level of attention to detail and the ability to quickly and accurately enter financial data.
  5. Ability to work within the values of St Patrick’s Community Support Centre.
  6. An understanding of health and safety issues relevant to the position.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated relevant experience – including high level of proficiency in the use of Quickbooks
  • Minimum one year book-keeping experience in Australia
  • Book-keeping/Accounting qualification
  • Relevant computer skills in MS Office software and applications, including high level skills in Excel
  • National Police Clearance
